I just auditioned the Triton Sevens at a local store and love them! But I have some questions..

Some background: I am coming from 4 large floor, 2 center, 1 sub Yamaha speakers and while remodeling I decided to get rid of all but the center channels and the sub. To my disappointment there was a range between the centers and sub that was lost even after lots of tweaking. Attached is a picture of my current setup in the new apartment.

So I was thinking about going back to floor standing speakers and made the case to my girlfriend that I would get rid of the large, and hideous, sub. Surrounds are out of the question because there is no great way to run cable to them.

A pair of Triton Sevens seem like a great match for the space especially with the ribbon tweeters in a long and mixed use room. They sounded great at high volume but then I asked the sales clerk about low volumes and he suggested that my Denon AVR-E400 wouldn't cut it for low volumes and some of the base range may be lost especially considering I wouldn't be using a sub.

His recommendation was to use an amp or a preamp or both along with my Denon for video processing. My Denon doesn't have a pre-out for each channel, only the sub, so I may have to replace that as well. I was looking at the Emotiva XPA-2 or something under $1200. I'm also having trouble finding a receiver that has wireless networking, hdmi 2.0, and pre-outs for every channel. Most revivers that have these features also do 7.1 channels and I don't need that for the foreseeable future.

Can anyone recommend amp and receiver? I want crystal clear and immersive audio at lower volumes maybe half the time. Does this setup even make sense, or would smaller speakers be better?

Lower volume listening...have I got an amp for you, look no further. The decware Zen Torii MK4 (push pull design/25 watts) is pure magic at low volume levels...it will literally draw you into the music. Price an issue?...they carry a selection of triode, set, and push pull designs starting at $895.00 with a life time warranty.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

wow that MK4 is beautiful! .. though a bit out of my price range. The Super Zen Triode at $895 is a good price though 2 watts/channel doesn't seem like enough... is it? I am not familiar with tube amps at all.

For low level volume listening a 2 watt tube amp will work fine.If you're interested, give Steve Deckert a call at 319-822-5255 or email zen@decware.com...he would be happy to chat with you.

Hi Ryan, these are great questions and this is the place to ask them.
But I would go a different direction than what Bro Anthem is saying, though he knows what he is talking about and is right. BUT you don't seem to ALWAYS want to listen at low volumes. AND the fact that you have a sub sounds to me like you enjoy bass and movies with bass. So, IF you are to get rid of your sub, then I would HIGHLY recommend moving up to the Triton 2s with the built in subs. They are not that much bigger than the Triton 7s, and can be played soft as well, BOTH sound great, but the T2s have subs. And can be played LOUD. But with the powered built in subs, they do not need much power to play them either.
Just another thought.
Happy listening and enjoy the ride to Audio Perfection, GoldenEar will get you there.
God bless,
Wayne

I had considered that but its more than I want to spend right now. My local store has a trade up program if you want something that is 2x the price within one year of original purchase, so the Triton 2s would be perfect.
