Hi Cphill44,
I can certainly relate to being a cash strapped college student. I LIKE the fact that you realize you have to work for the things you want in this life. Good for you!!!! We need a LOT more people like you in this world.
In your situation buying used is probably the best way to go for now.
I will say this, but it probably won't help you right now, but the speakers you got can sound better and better with the better electronics you can get to drive them. The great thing is they can stay the same as you "grow" or develop your system.
I don't know if you ebay, I don't. but you might find something there. Do you know audiogon.com?
They are great for used stuff and recommendations.
Just a suggestion or two, because we don't know what kind of music you like to listen to, nor what size room you have, like it loud or like it more pure? IF rock and roll and louder, then there are lots of solid state amps and receivers out there. IF you like smaller, intimate, pure sound, look for tube amps.
For surround sound, you need a processor to send the signals to all the right places, but TRY to get one with PRE OUTS, so you can add stand alone amps later for the different channels, then you can grow your system a bit at a time as you can afford it.
Whichever way you go, what ever you get, please keep us informed and let us know how you are getting on. This is a fun journey.
Enjoy, God Bless, Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.
