Six months ago I purchased a pair of Aon 3's. Was so happy and impressed (replaced 33 year old ADS speakers) that I also replaced my older center channel with a 3c with the help and advice of the terrific members of this forum. About three weeks ago i decided to replace my old surrounds with Supersat 3's. I did not think that changing the surrounds would make that big a difference, WRONG! The clarity and detail form the surrounds is amazing. When coupled with the rest of the GE system the sound is completely enveloping. I am using a Def Tech sub (sort of Sandy!) which has integrated well. I placed the crossover for the 3c and 3's at 120. I originally had the crossover of the Aons at 80 but lowered it to 60 on the advice of the Audio store where I purchased the 3s. The sound seems a bit more natural at 60 and a little less boomy from the sub. I am listening to music through my Marantz 1605 in Multi channel stereo and all TV and DVDs in Dolby digital, DTS, or PLII depending on the original source. While I know from religiously reading the forums that the new Triton reference are outstanding they are not an option for me. My system may be modest in stature and cost but looms large in sound quality. Just thought I would share my experience as it might be of use to those without a huge budget.

The GEt line has some real gems and jewels in it and you have hit the nail on the head, these speakers can certainly be IMPRESSIVE!!!!!
I am happy to hear somebody cheer a "budget" system like yours because even that is WAY the heck better than most people in this world get to enjoy!!!

Ditto what Wayne so eloquently said! Haven’t heard a GEt speaker yet that I didn’t love. They all have that amazing GEt family sound.

Not surprised changing to all GEt paid big sound dividends. The way they all play together to make that seamless sound envelope is priceless.

I started with a SuperSat system: 50’s as L/C/R, 3’s for surrounds, and a tired old sub (now retired). It was a great cinema system - though tricky to get the sub crossed-over right. Congrats to you!

I need the advice of our friends here. I have been considering adding a two channel amp for the Front Aon 3s. I have read conflicting things on the web as to whether I will actually notice an improvement. Is it a question of a certain number on the wattage per channel added? If the improvement would only be modest, then I think I will stick with what I have and save my pennies. I play all my music on Multi Channel stereo and all movies/tv on Dolby digital or other surround modes. Just to be clear, I am not unhappy with the sound I have now but always have that itch to add something if it makes a difference. Thanks. By the way, I ditched the Def Tech Sub for a Forcefield 4.

Hi again New Golden, I got an email showing a new post and good question from you, but don't see it here. I will try to respond anyway. IF I got it right, you are asking about upgrading from your Marantz 1605, whether or not it is worth it sound wise.
OF course, IF you are playing all channels from the amps inside the 1605, then it would be rather easy to run out of headroom, ability to play very loudly. However, the Marantz company is a little more conservative than a LOT of other companies about how they rate their receivers, so it probably does have somewhere near 50 wpc to send to the Aons.
Would the Aons sound better if you sent a more powerful amp's output to them? Yes, probably, some. Sorry, only you can decide if that improvement in sound is worth it to you. IMHO, I would save money and enjoy the sound you have now (I am a fan of Marantz and think for their VERY reasonable price, they get it pretty RIGHT on sound. Moving up the line of the GEt speakers to a tower and moving the Aons to the surround position is what I would save my money for. Then, with something like the T 2+s in the front, yes, adding a more powerful amp later would make a MUCH larger difference.
But it is just my humble opinion and may not be the way you want to go.
