Hi all, after reading "Sandy's Setup Tips" I decided to connect the T1's LFE ports. Discernible improvement!! So Sandy's comment on some rcvr's attenuating low freq signals to the speaker outputs seems to be true in my case. I am using an Yamaha RX-A1040. All channels are powered externally to the Yamaha except rear surround. I added LFE connections after about 3 month of listening. I am listening to music in "Pure Direct" mode so no tone or EQ adjustments. The base has more punch and is audibly more defined. Much better overall bass response. I have listed my HDW below for reference. I used music for the comparison. Bass on video tracks are huge now!!

Interesting post. I will be auditioning Triton Ones this week. One of my options upon purchase would be to decide between connecting the T1s directly, or using my Onkyo's LFE pre out to drive the LF section of the Tritons.

Regarding your experience: When you had the T1s directly connected to your Yamaha unit (no LFE), did you adjust the Yamaha to permit full range signals to the T1s and did you set the Yamaha's sub option to "NO"? If not, you might want to try those settings and see if they make a difference with the T1s connected directly.

One of the potential disadvantages of using the Yamaha's LFE preout is that you must determine the proper LFE crossover setting yourself to get the best sound blend. This issue may or may not be of significance, depending upon the type of music you enjoy.

When I audition the T1s, I will be listening for smooth transition over the internal T1s crossover. This test for me is significant because I listen primarily to orchestral and choral music.

LFE is not a pre-out, its an LFE out. Pre-outs are full range. I'm sure the setup was correct without the LFE attached, he simply discovered the reason why we recommend the use of the LFE hook up now.

LFE can contain movie effects information up to 120 HZ, that's where the LFE crossover should be set if there is that option (typically, when you set mains to Large and Sub to Yes, crossover choice is often disabled). There is absolutely no "blending" of LFE involved, either the LFE signal is included in the L/R signal, or sent down the LFE path.

Blending of the active to passive portions of the Triton speakers is their hallmark (read the reviews, everyone mentions that) because it is done digitally rather than with passive crossover components as in a conventional speaker.

What would Triton's recommended connection and setup be for a situation in which the Triton 1s were to be used exclusively to listen to two-channel stereo music from an AV Receiver which will be set to the PURE DIRECT mode? The AV Receiver has an LFE Output available. Would Triton still recommend connecting the LFE output to the Triton 1s even though the use will be exclusively for music?

I have had my Triton Ones for a week now. I do not have the LFE output connected from my Onkyo NR 3009 to the Triton Ones. I have been listening primarily to orchestral and choral music. I like the smooth bass response I'm hearing, as part of the overall blend.

I plan to connect the LFE output from my Onkyo to see what the differences are. I'll report results.

Hey there Art,
IF you are only listening to music (not movies) then there is NO LFE to be sent to the Triton Ones. LFE is only the ".1" in 5.1 or 7.1 (for example) for movies, IF I understand correctly.
So when you listen to music in Pure Direct mode you are getting all the music sent to your Triton Ones, nothing is cut off.
"Don't worry, be happy" as the song says.
Enjoy your music on your Ones, I am jealous, I am sure they are wonderful!!!!!
