Hi all, I'm back from a very busy week on the road and catching up on all the awesome selections for timeless music.
Among all the types of music I like, I confess to liking Power Pop a lot. Tommy Tutone, The Romantics, Scandal, Great Buildings, Fotomaker, Nick Lowe, Tommy Keene, Holly & the Italians, Paul Collins Beat, The Kings, etc. Anyway, the co-writers of 867-5309/Jenny are Jim Keller and Alex Call. Alex Call was a founding member of Clover, a great Bay Area band that included John McFee, Sean Hopper, Johnny Ciambotti and later Huey Lewis. Clover was the backing band on Elvis Costello's first record, 'My Aim Is True,' but Alex was not on that record. In 1983 he released a terrific self titled solo album on Arista Records that you can find if you look. It was never released on CD, just vinyl, so look at
www.musicstack.com or
www.gemm.com to find it. Amazon may be a decent source, too. This record has many standout tracks, but two are really great: "New Romeo" and "Just Another Saturday Night." Not sure it quite makes timeless status, but it's darn good. I hope you like it if you seek it out.
