Thank you all for the well wishes :cheer:

In my case, I'm hopeful to receive the Oppo on Saturday May 6, but it could go a bit longer. I ordered the player through a dealer, even though I have the pre-order email direct from Oppo. Reason being I'm saving about $90 this way. Also, Oppo claims they are not shipping until the 28th, however, I've read on the AVS forum that certain purchasers already received shipping confirmation. Dealers I'm told receive the product after customer direct orders.

As to any review I may make, I might defer that until I receive the Triton Reference. Honestly what I'm using now is adequate, but not high-end enough to justify reviewing an item. I have a pair of loaner wharfdale towers and pbs sub. They cannot even be mentioned in the same sentence with Golden Ear, therefore, this is a different sentence.

Regarding first production run "fears", in general I too am mindful of this and it can be a cause of concern. In the case of the Oppo, however, from the articles I've followed on AVS Forum with the 203, all issues were software related, and those issues have been or are being addressed with firmware. The hardware in the Oppo's from what I understand hasn't really changed much across models, including the non-4k models. Point here is that Oppo already has a proven track record of releasing viable products. If in the unfortunate event I'm unlucky in this regard, I can always return it within their 30 day money back guarantee window. Hopefully it won't come to that.

I have the same concern being a customer of the first production run of the Triton Reference. In this case the speakers are more than 6 times the cost of the Oppo. I ordered the TR without hearing or seeing it in person because of my experience with the T1 and GET in general. I'm not overly concerned about either, and remain hopeful both will perform exemplary.

Of ALL the companies in the world to be an early adopter, I think you have chosen GEt and Oppo well GDHAL!!!!!
No fear there IMHO.
IF it ain't right (and I am pretty sure it will be) they will fix it!!!!!
We all know about GEt's wonderful support and track record.
I have run Oppos for years now and they fix everything with firmware updates, and I think that has even gotten better with their expertise growing.
Good decisions, Good luck,
Jealous here,
God Bless,
Wayne

Just following up to report I received and setup the Oppo UDP-205 today. Initial impressions of both video and audio are very good. Nothing more to report at this time unless there are specific questions. :)

GDHAL:

Congratulations on the arrival of your Oppo UDP-205. Hopefully it will relieve some of "waiting game" anticipation of the Triton Reference.
Quick question...have you had a chance to compare the Analog rca outputs to the Oppo 105. Interested to hear if cd's would sound better, or not.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

And just a followup question to Bro Anthem's above ^, are you using the RCA unbalanced or the balanced outputs for music? IF unbalanced, pls also advise on the sound?
God Bless,
Wayne

Hello anthem and WayneWilmeth.

In answer to your questions, this is my first Oppo piece of equipment. So I never owned or even heard in anyone else's system the 105. So I have no basis for comparing the 205 to 105. I did see one or two posts on the AVS forum where current or previous 105 owners are reporting a sound improvement with the 205.

I am using the analog balanced output and the default DAC filter setting. I have not had a chance to test the various filter settings, but I understand the filter setting would largely be a matter of preference anyway. Also, the loaner speakers I am using now are not resolving enough to definitively comment on the sound quality, however, I can report that in my opinion it does sound very good. I think anyone who listens to the Sabre DAC would agree it is capable of producing quality sound, and from what I'm reading on the AVS forum most owners are very happy overall with the sound. I just read a recent post where someone reports the best headphone sound hes ever heard.
