I think it worked, but I wish he had played it with the wood glue still on there, pretty sure it would have sounded even better!!! Sorry, that was not nice.

It would be nice to have a chemist chime in. My take is that the wood glue bonds to itself, but not to the vinyl. During the bonding process, the glue which has slipped down in between the grooves attaches to minute dust particles and other tiny contaminants. When the glue is peeled away, there is enough adhesion to remove all the glue from the record, taking the contaminants along.

I would be very liberal with the amount of glue used - to be sure that there was ample glue to form the bond thick enough for all glue to bond together. The key is to be sure that the glue in the grooves bonds and that the entire amount of glue is lifted away when removed.

If I were to try this method, I would use exactly the same Tight Bond glue he used.

Might be worth a try on an LP which is so noisy that it does not get played otherwise.

Your summary is correct. So you could play the record "later".... talk about delayed gratification.

How about a good record cleaning machine that you can use for a minute and then play the record? I have a VPI HW-17, an old standard, but there are several other good vacuum-style choices, as well as the newer (and stupid expensive) ultrasonic cleaners that analog guys are raving about.

I do happen to have a good vacuum cleaning system - given to me recently by a close family friend after her husband passed away. I have used it to clean LPs just prior to transferring them to audio WAV files, which I can then further process to reduce or remove surface noise and those disturbing ticks and pops. I am pleased with the cleaning performed by this system, so I will not be applying glue to my LPs.

With the vacuum system, I have experienced good results by placing the LP under the sink and wetting the entire surface of one side, then applying the vacuum, then repeating the process for the second side. I don't allow much water to remain on the LP after wetting it under the sink - just enough to provide a damp surface and, hopefully, enough for water to remain in the grooves prior to applying the vacuum.
