I suppose that's an option as well. Bootcamp is free I believe, its part of the Mac infrastructure. Virtualization software like Parallels is not free. Windows 8 is only about $135 so its probably about a wash vs. buying a cheap used laptop.

I agree, that I'm surprised in this day and age. OS X isn't supported. I posted on Anthem's facebook page asking if its coming. I'll post here if I get a response one way or the other.

It's exactly this reason that I won't buy an Apple computer. I have nothing against iOS and like my iPads and iPhones, but when it comes to computers, I want something that can run the vast majority of software. Also, Apple computers are simply over priced, IMO.

I haven't heard anything back yet on the AVM 60. Hopefully it is not on back order. I'll write something up once I have it up and running. Most of the recent reviews by users have been positive except for the fact that the ARC seems to be a bit buggy. I'll probably wait a few weeks before I attempt room calibration. Most other complaints seem to be focused on price...

Cheers,

T Cobe

If we're going to get into a Mac vs. PC debate, probably better for a separate thread. Most software DOES run on OSX. Case in point, this is the first software I've potentially needed to run that requires Windows since 2010. And frankly, I'd argue Anthem is behind the times rather than OSX not being mainstream enough to support the vast majority of apps. Dirac and Room EQ Wizard, which are just as sophisticated, run on OSX.

I saw one guy on AVS was having problems with ARC. He was getting identical measurements with REW with ARC enabled and disabled so obviously that was causing some confusion. But this version of ARC isn't brand new in the AVM 60. I think they updated it with the MRX X10 series of AVRs that came out last year. Maybe some minor revisions since then but its not a brand new version.

What are the complaints about price? Its totally competitive with Emotiva, Marantz, and Yamaha which range from $2000 - $4000.

Imahawki,

No debate necessary, I'm ready to run ARC on my laptop PC when my AVM 60 arrives. ;)

Regarding ARC issues, I think people are getting other errors as well on AVS. Possibly some USB issues. I will agree that the software and connectivity seem to be a bit outdated but I think they focus on the sonics versus the interface. To me, the is where iOS shines.

I agree on the price aspect. People are always going to complain about something. Go back to Anthem's Facebook site and look at some of the posts. Pretty silly in my mind. The market is full of options and I think an Anthem AVM processor for $2,999 is a steal. Based on my audition and what I've read, they have cut costs and eliminated features I don't need, such as component video and Audessey. Apparently the price on the AVM 60 is going up to $3,500 in the UK and they're up in arms about that as well. Trolls abound!

Cheers,

T Cobe

The AVM 60 is here and firing on all cylinders. I couldn't be happier! My Integra was definitely the weak link in my system. The benefits are more than I had hoped for. The sound is already significantly better, particularly the center channel, but the improvement to the picture is a huge boost! I guess my Integra's HDMI board was going bad. The video pass through of the AVM 60 has improved my resolution, brightness, and color!

I'm not going to do any critical listening yet and the ARC will have to wait a week or two. The surround channels are more present and the detail all around is much clearer. All smiles here! :woohoo:

Good for you, T Cobe!

I get more and more convinced that GEt speakers are just waiting to deliver extraordinary SQ... just give them great source input, and they'll play every nuance, every gorgeous note. I've been reading posts of late of folks getting GEt speakers at half or less the price of what they had and and getting an upgrade in SQ, folks using their GEt speakers for mastering....

Enjoy the improvement in SQ, PQ. As Moderator Dude says, "it's more than just the speakers".

I'm betting you'll get every ounce of benefit of your set up! Enjoy the better PQ and SQ. And keep us posted on what you discover as you fine tune your settings and test out ARC.

Happy listening!

Rick
