The Marantz is pretty much the opposite. You get Audyssey which is a black box and you get no ability to change anything. Either take it or leave it. However, the reviews are off the hook for this pre/pro. Sound & Vision I think compared it favorably to a $7000 Krell for music.

Chiming in for information purposes only. I believe ARC will run on MAC in PC mode (whatever the Mac calls that), and the higher-end processors with Audyssey, like the 8802 and Integra 60, allow you to not use the correction on the main L/R speakers, which makes it a lot easier to stomach (which is what GoldenEar did when we used it at CEDIA last year).

Thanks Moderator Dude,
Yes, my Marantz AV7005 allowed you to bypass the front L&R speakers when in Audyssey. It did make things a little less awful, but it still allowed a really harsh top end in the surrounds and center. i just could not use it although my room needed a little help.
As always, YMMV.
God Bless,
Wayne

Just goes to show you, don't make final judgments on audio gear based on what you read. DIRAC does not surpass ARC in functionality, adjustability (within reasonable home-user boundaries) or, most importantly, sound quality. Good alternative to Audyssey, agree with you there, but this comment is not supported by the reality of listening/use experience.

Its true you can run ARC on a Mac but you have to purchase a Windows license and install it via bootcamp in case anyone else has the same concern. This obviously costs the additional cost of a Windows license that I otherwise would never buy since I despise Windows and it takes up valuable hard drive space. This is probably the direction I'm going to go in however as the AVM 60 is at the top of my list for the reasons I've already cited.

Bootcamp, that's it. I knew they had a name for it.

Understood, Anthem should really have a Mac version. Surprised they aren't getting pressure on that from owners and prospectives.

Maybe cheaper to buy a used laptop.... I see them for $100 all the time. Don't need anything fancy to run ARC.
