Hi,

I currently have a 13.2 HT setup that I'm looking to convert to a 9.2.4 Atmos config.

After attending CEDIA this year, I was extremely impressed by the HTR7000. I've already purchased some for my upstairs living room - all ceiling 7.1.4 Atmos config.

As I got to thinking, maybe it was time to move away from my Magnepans to GE's all around for the HT. I love MG's for the clarity but was never impressed by the mid bass range.

My current HT speaker lineup is:

Front LR - 1.7
Front wide LR - MMG
Tricenter - CC5 & MC1
Surround LR - MMGW
Back LR - 1.7
Subwoofer - 2 Submersives

My thoughts are to do the following

Front LR - Triton 1
Front wide LR - Triton 5
Tricenter - SuperCenter XXL & Invisa MPX
Surround LR - Triton 5
Back LR - Triton 5
Atmos ceiling speakers - HTR 7000
Subwoofer - 2 Submersives

Any suggestions/thoughts?

You already have quite the system, but I can assure you, moving to GoldenEar will be a DEFINITE move UP!!!!!!!!
The GEt line are the ONLY speakers that could get me away from bipolar panels. I had Maggies and then Apogee for YEARS because I could not stand the sound of the BOX that came with dynamic speakers. YES, I wanted more dynamics, more mid bass and deep bass, like you do. I see you have added two subs to get bass. I added one with my panels.
But the Triton Ones will kick butt in terms of adding an INTEGRATED mid bass and bass in the front left and right, carrying over into the center AND still be as sweet, open, fast and articulate in the midrange and highs as your Maggie are, IMHO. Vocals will still sound musical and RIGHT. Guitar strings will still be fresh and palpable, just there in front of you in your room, flutes, cymbals and the highest notes on a triangle will sparkle and shine without any harshness or glare (unless introduced elsewhere in your system).
Your proposed system will be KILLER good!!!!!!
And you will have all the fun of ATMOS too, if that is what blows your skirt up.
I would say go for it and please keep us informed out it turns out? And add pics too, if you would be so kind.

Welcome to the forum. I think Wayne has done a great job covering all of the bases here. The only bit I would add is that Maggie's are very directional and have a narrow sweet spot. That may be part of the reason you have so many speakers in your current setup. I would start with the T1s and the SCXXL up front and see if that is enough. They will envelop you with a very full front sound stage. I get about 180 degrees of very 3 dimensional sound with my T1s. I frequently find myself checking to see if my left and right surround speakers are active during playback.

GET and some forum members (mainly Rick) have had great success using T2s as surrounds. They provide active bass to the back half of the room: creating a 360 degree effect with LFE. I have done the same with a dedicated sub just behind my PLP, resulting in better dispersion and immersion. You will have some flexibility with the Submersives as well. You're going to have a tremendous amount of bass.

Please let us know how you get on. If you're willing to share your space with us, please post some pics as well. Maybe a few pics of your current setup would help with recommendations.

Amen to all that Wayne and T Cobe have written so well.

Re T2's as surrounds. I already owned a pair of T2's, as fronts, and moved them to rear surrounds when I installed T1's as fronts. I love the total integration of bass that the Triton towers provide (and yes, Goldenear has used this combination at CES to great reviews). I did not have any external subs at the time, and still don't. I'm very happy with the bass levels I can now get, and the balance, including the thunderous stuff on action movies (yes, Wayne, I got the "San Andreas" DVD based on your review, and it does shake the ground, as you said!). Given that you already have external Submersive subs, you have the envious luxury of choosing to incorporate those for additional bass. It may be worth an audition of the T1's and/or T5's in concert with the Submersives to see how you like how they all play together tonally and get a sense of what you would need to do to balance things, vs. considering incorporating maybe (one?) pair of T2's in one of the rear surround positions, with any other surrounds you may choose as T5's, as another way to help balance bass. I don't think you could go wrong any way you chose to go. GEt speakers blend together beautifully, no gaps in the sound field.

I'm starting to play around with ATMOS also. I have Invisa 525's, and they're GOOD. The newer HTR 7000's must be amazing.

As Wayne said, the system you are envisioning would be fantastic!!!! And, as T Cobe points out, you can always do it a step or two at a time, see what works best for you.

As someone who's been around the A/V block, including being a former Magnepan owner and a new Triton owner, I'd echo the idea of starting out with just a single center. I'd be surprised if you feel the need to do a tri-center with the Golden Ear setup.

Possibly. I'm going to prewire for tri-center and see how it goes. I really liked how the tri-center setup put the vocals exactly where I expected them to be instead of floating above or below like most centers I've had.

What Magnepans did you have?
