Hi,
I have been following this forum for a long time, and would like to say thanks to the contributors here, I have learned a lot.

I have so much to say, not sure where to start.

I was at the dealer today to listen to the triton 2's. I briefly listened to the AON 3’s a while ago and loved them. I have dreamed of owning the triton 2’s for a long time but listened to them for the first time today because I am finally ready financially to take the plunge.

I have read every review on these speakers I could find and they all have raved about how good these speakers are. The speakers are visually appealing to me as well, and I really liked the idea of having powered front speakers so I would not have to have a separate sub-woofer.

When I got there the dealer had supersat 3’s and a forcefield 4 setup, which I listened to for a while before getting to the triton 2’s. The speakers sounded good, but the imaging lacked compared to what I originally heard from the AON’s, however I believe this was just because of the speaker placement not being optimal. The bass from the FF 4 was excellent. Very deep and I had to turn it down to 9:00 because it was just shaking the small demo room apart and overpowering the supersat 3’s in this small room.
Then onto the triton 2’s. The triton 2’s again were not setup optimally (room limitations) so the imaging was not as good as I heard a while ago in the AON’s but the speakers were still VERY impressive. Everything from the high notes to the mid bass notes were very impressive and everything I had hoped for. The bass was tight and responsive. The problem was the low end bass. I felt they were missing a lot in the deep bass department. This was really disappointing for me because I really was hoping these would have all the bass I required. We turned the bass dial up on the tritons all the way to 3:00 and still felt lacking. This was really surprising to me from everything that I have read about these speakers, and considering the demo room was pretty small. I thought they would be comparable to the FF4 I just listened to.

The single FF4 dominated the triton 2’s in the bass department.

I want to be clear, I was extremely happy with everything the tritons had to offer, except my dream of not having to get a separate sub was crushed. And I cannot afford the 2’s AND a sub.

The dealer has a pair of triton 7’s on order and as soon as they are in I will be auditioning them in combination with a FF4 or FF5. I REALLY hope this combination does everything that I want it to do.

I am hoping to get responses from others with their opinions. Has anyone else reading this felt it was ESSENTIAL to add a separate sub with the triton 2’s? I never thought I was bass hungry but I guess I am.

After I left the store I thought maybe the 2’s were not setup properly, although I thought we double checked that. In your experiences have you gathered that a FF4 would go much deeper and have more bass then a pair of triton 2’s?

Looking forward to any responses/advice. Thanks. oh and if you would like further details on anything please ask.

The Tritons were setup wrong (or broken, but I doubt that). I guarantee you the speakers were high-passed on whatever surround sound unit they were using, probably at 80Hz. Go back to the store, get someone that knows what they're doing to play the speakers full range. A pair of Triton Twos is the equivalent of TWO of the ForceField 4's you heard. Hope that makes it pretty clear what you should expect from a pair of properly setup and functioning Twos.

You can also call the office and rat out the dealer, we'd be glad to contact them and shake their cage a bit. No excuse for this but it happens all the time on busy sales floors that are setup for a "typical" demo. Sorry.

Well thanks for the info!! I definitely will be listening to them again. They were hooked up to an Anthem MRX 300(receiver I am planning on purchasing) and I thought I saw him double check speakers were 'large' and sub 'no' but there must have been something wrong.

LOL no need to rattle any cages I'll take it as an honest mistake. Sucks I took a day off work today though and have to go back again for another listen.

Really looking forward to a second listen!! Will try and make another trip this weekend.

Thanks for the quick response.

Sorry, I guess I was pretty quick to jump on the dealer... my bad. :(

Anyway, Anthem receiver, great piece, MUCH more complicated than your average receiver (no offense, that can be a good thing). I would simplify your audition by getting the dealer to connect them to a two channel (stereo) setup and let you hear how they sound. Starting fresh in your home with the Anthem receiver I'm sure you can set the system up to sound great. I've done it myself with one of those, with outstanding results. But using one at a store, potentially hooked up to many other things over time, with lots of people playing with the menus ... crap shoot I'm afraid.

I was able to hear the triton 2's this weekend for a second listen at a different dealer.

The speakers were incredible. In short, all the bass that was missing the first time around was there, and definitely no need for any additional subs. In a very short time I decided I was going to work towards setting up a triton 2 home theater system.

I would love to get some opinions from the contributors here, all advice/opinions is appreciated, as you may have noticed already I do not have a lot of experience with this stuff, but I assure you the passion is there!!

Receiver: Planning on getting Anthem MRX 300, has great reviews, and many are saying it has one of the best Room Correction Software which I hope will improve the sound of my oddly shaped room. I also hope I am not putting too much faith into a receivers room correction abilities. Anybody have any other suggestions for receivers I should consider? Don't require a lot of bells and whistles, but the room correction part does peak my interest.

Speaker setup: I cannot afford the receiver and all the speakers at once. I would like to start with a 2.0 or 2.1 channel system.
This will be temporary until I can save for the triton 2's. Should I start with AONS without a sub, or SS3's with a Forcefield 3? when I get the triton 2's the AONS or the SS3's will move as my surrounds.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks
