Glad to hear things went well on your next audition.

Anthem receiver is excellent choice and Anthem's room correction is certainly exceptional. Keep in mind that you should use the Anthem room correction in a narrower range than its 5kHz default. I suggest 500 Hz. Otherwise receivers from Marantz, Pioneer and NAD have come highly recommended.

Choice of your starting system should be based on what will fit for later. Certainly a pair of Aon 3's would be a very satisfying 2.0 system, but perhaps the SuperSats are a better fit for the eventual surround application? If so, the SS3 + FF3 combo makes the most sense (except maybe the ForceField will be extra baggage when you get the Triton Twos later)?

Hello Sloppy,
As always the Moderator Dude has given good and well informed advice. And I agree 100% on what he says, that you should think of what will fit for the future when putting together your first purchase.
Now, the rest of what I will say is not well informed, but my own opinion. But you asked for it.
If you are comparing the Aons and the SuperSats to use right now and then later move to the rear for surround speakers, I would say go with AONs!!!!! To me this is not even close. The SuperSats are (just my opinion here) competent surround speakers, the Aons are MAGIC!!!!! The Aons, 2s or 3s are just one of the BEST speaker finds and bargains in the WORLD!!!!!
I don't have any, I bought the Triton 2s and the 3s. That broke the bank. And I already have competent speakers for my rear surrounds, BUT if I did not, and if I had the money, I would jump all over the Aons too. They will be wonderful as rear surrounds AND you never know the future, you may decide to set up a second listening area in a bedroom or study, etc. And they will be GREAT on their own. With a Forcefield sub they are a whole (full-range) system.
The Anthem equipment gets great reviews, I am sure you will like it. I have the Marantz AV-7005 with bel canto power amps. And other amps. IF I had more to spend I would go with the Marantz AV 8801.
What ever you do, I hope you will not compromise, get the Triton 2s when you can. And second, please keep us informed, let us know how you are progressing, what you decide and how it sounds.
Most of all, enjoy,
God Bless, Wayne

Thanks for the opinions, just what I was looking for. I agree with Wayne about having the AONS as surrounds, I think being able to set a lower crossover would be beneficial to the surround sound effects but I am not 100% sure of that.

The main concern is placement. I have heard a lot of advice surrounds should be placed as high as possible, which I could do with either speaker. However, the AONS would have to be placed behind the listening position, but the SS3's could be installed on the sides of the listening position. Not sure if surrounds would sound best behind or beside the listening position, has anyone had experience with these different speaker placement options?

Thanks

Hi Sloppy,
Again, this is just my opinion and mine alone, BUT I feel much more confident about this one. I have set up several surround sound systems through the years. I have had the surrounds mounted on the ceiling, high behind the listening position, and on stands so that I could move them around where I wanted them. And stand mounted speakers (as the Aons probably would be unless you mounted them to the wall or something) were and are my favorite. This gives the most flexibility. I like them to the side and a bit behind my listening position. Perhaps 20-30 degrees or so behind my lateral position. I like 4 surrounds, a 7.1 surround, so in this case the rear left and right are more nearly 15-20 degrees back on the sides, slightly behind and then the rear surrounds way on back behind left and right. When I play 5.1 surround music that is recorded with 5 full range channels around the listener (TACET recordings are AWESOME) you are right in the middle of the music and you will really appreciate having great surround speakers like the Aons in the rear.
To cut a long story shorter, stand mounted rear surrounds are awesome IF you have the room for them, BECAUSE they can be moved and positioned where you really want them. Up high is NOT for me.
But YMMV.
Enjoy, Blessings, Wayne

Wayne has some valid points. However, if movie watching is part of your system...wall mounting may sound better..

Ever notice surround speaker placement in a top notch Theater?
My Aon 3's are mounted on the side walls...top of the speaker is approximately 12 inches from ceiling .
I use SS3's for rear surrounds...mounted on the wall.

Experimentation is the key. What may sound right to me, may not sound right to you.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

I'm with Anthem on this one, but this is a very personal taste thing. MANY people prefer it Wayne's way, but for primary movie watching I too prefer the surrounds mounted high.

Regarding the lower crossover point, I've set up many systems with SuperSat surrounds that sounded spectacular even with the higher crossover setting. Others may prefer more full range surround in which case the Aon is perfect (Mark Fleischman's review in Home Theater Magazine of a 5-Aon 2 system is a great example of this, if you haven't read it.
