I need to put Aon2's on stands. I'm thinking either Sanus Steel Foundation or Pangea LS200. I don't feel comfortable just setting them on stands without some mechanical attachment because of pets.

I'm thinking either using velcro or screwing into the bottom of the speaker. Has anyone removed the "bumpers" on the bottom of a Aon? I'm curious what's under the bumper.

Would one method of attachment result in better sound? I'm guessing given the environment the speakers are in there will be no noticeable difference.

Velcro will work, use large strips. The bumpers cover the screws used to mount the speaker's base. The best sound is probably more related to damping the stands and isolating from the floor (spikes), although many also like spikes on the speakers. Some feel energy absorbing pads under the speaker are best.

How about Blu-tack. You could put it right on the bumpers and then secure and isolate at the same time.

Yeah, blue-tak, poster tak whatever is just made for this. One it has an adhesive quality that won't damage the speaker but it will "stick" it to the stand and two, many many people experience sonic improvements because it couples the speaker to the stand. This works better with good, heavy, high mass stands but still.
