Hello, I just installed my new home theatre 5.1 surround system using 5 of the Aon 2's and the Forcefield 4 Sub. I am driving them with the Pioneer Elite SC-71 Receiver. The sound is pretty incredible when I get a good quality audio mix. The only complaint that I have so far is that they sound a bit lacking in the midrange area? I am sure this is some sort of setting or adjustment that I am unaware of. I haven't had time to play around with these sort of adjustments as of yet. So far, I have only plugged in the microphone to the receiver that is used for calibration/setup. One thing I noticed when doing this, it had me turn my sub down to almost 1/4 total volume. The highs are incredible, but a bit overpowering right now. There is definitely some lacking mid-range punch that I would expect to hear out of these outstanding speakers. Could anyone advise on adjustments/settings that could possibly make this sound more balanced? Thanks in advance, Jake

Sounds like auto setup failed, not unusual. Defeat the auto setup and setup manually using the speaker setup menu, a tape measure, and a SPL meter. In general:

1) Measure and input distances for each speaker;
2) Set each speaker to "Small", subwoofer to "Yes";
3) Set the crossover at 80Hz for Front, Center, Surround channels;
4) Set Sub's crossover to max (may not be necessary but good to do anyway), set sub volume at 10 o'clock
5) Run the receiver's test tones and set levels using your SPL meter;
6) Listen, adjust bass level to taste, listen some more (speakers need about 50 hours of playing time to start sounding their best).

Manual setup and tuning in thing by ear will give the best results every time.

Thanks for the reply. I do not currently have an SPL meter. I noticed that there are some apps for the ipad/iphone that are SPL meters. Wondering if you think that would be sufficient, or should I buy a particular meter? Sorry, I am new to all of this and want to get these babies dialed in so they can shine.

Sure, AudioTool is the best.

Just looked in the App store and wanted to clarify....There is one called Audio Tool by performance audio and also AudioTools by Andrew Smith. Wondering which of these that you were recommending? Thanks again for your help!
