Hey AudioJim

Great looking system!!!

You're tempting me with your description of how the new SuperCenter Ref sounds vs. the XXL. I have the Triton Ref front/XXL combination now and have been most pleased with it. Did you get the SC Ref online via GEt's "shop online", or did your dealer have it for an audition? I'm thinking I want to audition one.... maybe you just took the leap? It seems new GEt speakers move the bar up most noticeably. Bought the T Ref's before hearing them and never looked back. So now here I am again, tempted and never having heard the SC Ref. Guess I'll call my new local dealer and see if they have one to audition, and if they don't, well still tempted. I've made a practice of trying big ticket items of any description before buying. But GEt keeps offering this new and better stuff and there's not always a local source to try it out .

Any additional thoughts/comments on XXL vs. Ref SC's most welcome.

Thanks!

Rick

Hi Rick,

I got the SC Ref from my dealer but I wasn't able to do an audition. I decided that after my experience of moving from the T1 to the TRef and learning that the SC Ref drivers were the same as the TRefs I figured it was a no-brainer. This also let me replace a SuperSat50c with the XXL which was a very large improvement in dialog intelligibility so it was kind of like two upgrades for the price of one.

On the subject of sound quality, the two things I noticed immediately was a better clarity in the midrange and more richness to voices. Not an unnatural boominess but rather a more "fullness" to male voices. I even felt it necessary to turn the center channel down 2db because I could make out the dialog so much better and the reduced level seemed more natural. The SC Ref is really the best match for the TRefs in my opinion, and I lived with the SC Ref/XXL combo for about 9 months.

Good luck with you decision!
Jim

PS Since there seems to be some interest I though I would show the big picture including the TRefs.
PPS I'm not sure why the image seems to duplicated or how to delete the duplicate. Sorry about that!

I'm curious how many hours of break in you have on your ref center ? I just hooked up my T-ones, T5's, and ref center yesterday. The towers sound surprisingly good right out of the box, but at first listen the center sounds worse than my old snell xa55 center. I was watching TV and kept reaching for remote to increase the center volume which had a muffled sound.

Hi nevets77,

I usually concern myself with break in but in the case of the Reference center it sounded so good out of the box that I didn't do anything special. I just let it break in through normal use. I certainly did not experience any kind of muffled sound ever. I'm using an excellent PS Audio m700 for the center channel amplification. Since I had the exact opposite experience as you, I wonder if there is something wrong somewhere??

Hope things get better for you!

Thanks,
Jim

Make sure it is as far forward on the shelf as possible and that is is at, or pointed up at, ear level. Stick your ear up close to the center of the speaker to make sure the tweeter is playing (I only ask because of the muffled comment).
