For the trefs, how necessary is it to keep the boxes? Do these frequently need service or is it fairly rare? The boxes are enormous and would require storage in the range of $300-500 a year so it seems like it's probably not worth it if these can go years or decades without service. Also, can professional movers typically handle these without boxes or would that be a problem? In the event something does break, can another box be sent to me?

It's preferred you keep them, but it's not necessary.

Needing service is fairly rare. About the only thing that one might have a problem with is the Sub Bass amp. The amp can generally be replaced "in the home" without shipping them off.

Can a professional mover move the T Refs without boxes?
That's not a good idea. Any move, especially a long move, would require the T Refs be boxed and lying flat on their side.

Can new boxes be sent?
Absolutely. Just Contact customer support on the Goldenear site either by phone or email.


I've had my T Refs for almost 4 years. No problems whatsoever and don't anticipate any.

For what it's worth...just sit back and enjoy the music and don't worry about potential problems that may occur in the future.

"Only movers know how to store items"...that's a ridiculous Statement. I wouldn't trust any mover to pack my T Refs in a "moving box"...they really need their orginal boxes to have a smooth and safe journey. "Some movers store the material in their garages so they easily move the stuff to anywhere else"...No mover is going to store my T Refs in "Their Garages"...I'd rather move my T Refs myself...I'm capable.

I admit I still have my Tref boxes in my garage, along with all my other stereo component boxes. I've been superstitious about that. And, it paid off once when one of my amps failed and had to be sent back to the manufacturer. But that was a small box.

That said, every time I have to schlep those Tref boxes around I wonder what the devil I'm doing. Like you said, anthem, the sub amps could probably be repaired at home. There's nothing else likely to go wrong with them.

For a while, before real estate went completely nuts here (+30% in the last year!), I had this dream of moving to a different home, so I saved the boxes for that, just in case. But now, that ain't gonna happen.

Maybe I should just get rid of them and make my life easier.

More important than the box is the styrofoam. I have all the original TREF packing material, in case I move.
