Hi. About 1 month ago I sold my old hi-fi gear (yamaha rx797, yamaha cd source, cambridge audio dac magic and B&W cm7) so I decided to upgrade. The system I purchased is:

Musical fidelity m6i integrated, musical fidelity m1 dac, MF M1 cd transport, shunyata hydra 8 power conditioner, wire world speaker cables with banana plugs, audio quest balanced interconnects , MF v-link and the Tritons Two. As source I mostly use my macbook through pure music and I always play 1411/44100 and above resolution.

At first I really loved the sound of the setup. However now I have noticed the following:

Highs start to become kind of bright ( which makes listenning periods of over 2 hrs hard on ears)

And something that really concerns me is that I have noticed that the speaker is often having trouble deffinning bass. By this I mean that bass may be somewhat abscent and with note changes it suddenly increases so it creates disstortion although music is not being played at very high volume. Currently the bass level is 10 o'clock on both speakers.

Questions:

Is there an specific track you guys can recommend to set the system's levels?
Is there a component in my setup that might be causing this to happen? My room's shape?
Any reccomendations?

So far the speakers have played around 30 hrs. Thank you very much.

Very difficult to troubleshoot from afar. I suggest you contact your GoldenEar dealer and have them come to your home and help identify the issues. Certainly all of your equipment seems very high fidelity.

If I was to make a guess, it sounds like a room issue to me. "One-note" bass, as you describe, is almost always associated with a room node(s). And lack of bass will make the system seem bright and more forward. Experimenting with room placement is one way to help identify if this is the problem. We recommend a wide placement, significant toe-in and at least a foot or more away from walls.

The unusual thing is this is not something that should have changed, unless you changed room locations. Since you have only one source, the "try a different source" as a starting point suggestion in the process of elimination would require hooking something else up to the system. But all components should be ruled out one by one.

It is also worth noting that the Tritons are in the middle of their break in period and perhaps they will change again in the next 30 hours. I can tell you that "bright" and "lack of bass" are not something we hear about the Tritons :) .

Regarding specific tracks, we all have our favorites - what you're used to is always a good choice. Bass level setting is a room and person specific adjustment, but it seems everyone is happy with settings between 9:00 and 12:00 on the dial.

Hope this helps - if not, enlist the help of your GoldenEar dealer.

Thank you very much.

I will experiment with room placement.

Is there an specific width lenght that might work best? Is there a max distance the speakers can be apart?

Regards

It's all room dependent, but the Tritons can be quite far apart and still provide "center fill" if that's what works best in your room.
