One other thing to consider: while the GEt tritons will play low, I like more bass than even two of them will produce. You may want to consider borrowing a sub from a friend, or just picking up a cheap $20-50 sub from Craigslist; not for permanent use - but more to get an in-home demo of what to expect.

I live in Colorado, where the local boutique dealer (listenup) have listening rooms that allow you to swap in between pre/pro/AVRs, speakers, and add/remove subwoofers into the mix on the fly. If you have that opportunity - that will immediately answer a lot of your questions. (This is how I first heard the supersub xxl)

While I do augment my triton two’s with a sub, it’s a sealed 8” model. That said, it adds just enough to 2 channel music - it’s perfect! My 10” sealed only gets used when I play movies.
Triton Two front L/R
SuperSat 50c center
Triton Seven surround L/R
SuperSat 50 surround rear L/R
AVR Arcam AVR-21
Amp Marantz mm7025
Velodyne optimum 10” sealed, back left corner
SuperSub X front-right corner

Hi Timecop,
I tried a ton of different combinations today and one of the things I determined was that the Dynamic EQ must be "on" and left at 0 db for any amount of appreciable bass to be heard / felt (I have the Marantz AV7703 Pre-Pro). Without Dynamic EQ on, the bass is thin and (weak) regardless of the other settings. I have MultiEQ XT32 set to flat.
I have a small Sony (10 inch /150 watts) subwoofer that I calibrated with the Tritons at Large with no LFE cables attached to them (trying to simulate the SVS subwoofer I am contemplating to add to the system for 2-channel bass fill-in). It sounds decent but there is now only one subwoofer calibrated in the system and I won't be able to use the LFEs on the Tritons for Movies. How do you have your speakers / receiver/ pre-pro configured so you can have your fronts to large/small (with LFE connected) for 2-channel, but run the Triton subwoofers for surround sound along with your separate subs?
Thanks, Rich

Hi Timecop, Do you run them this way for movies also (no LFE for Triton subs)?

Reading this, I would have to say I wouldn't do anything until you wipe the Marantz clean, turn off ALL audio processing and EQ functions and start over with a manual setup, following the guidelines in the Sandy's Tips document on our website support menu.

Unless your room is quite large, or your appetite for bass is beyond what the stereo recordings possess (nothing wrong with that) there is absolutely no reason the Tritons would have the appropriate amount of bass for movies, but not for stereo music playback. They can't tell the difference. :)

Hi Moderator,
I have tried Sandys settings suggested in this website (in his "using for music and movies" section)and it has yielded less than acceptable results because stereo music does not have a .1 channel for the tritons to use with an LFE cable attached (I use my Triton speakers for music and multichannel movies). I ran a test using the Tritons in full range mode (speaker wires only), and ran a separate subwoofer with an LFE cable. I turned off all processing such as Audyssey, Dynamic EQ, etc., set my speaker setting to Large, and crossover at 80hz for the subwoofer(in the 2 channel section of my Marantz), and while playing 2.0 music, I toggled between LFE and LFE + Main and the subwoofer only became active when LFE + Main was used and nothing came out of it with LFE only. This is what happens to the Tritons when using an LFE input to them when playing music but will sound a little better using the LFE + Main setting (which Sandy says NOT to use).
I also ran a test using only the Tritons with speaker wire (no LFE) and set all processing to "off" and music is basically unlistenable with the sound being weak and thin with minimal bass that does not match the output of the mids and highs.
Please let me know if I am missing something or am overlooking something obvious to help improve my speakers bass output.
I am going to run some more tests and combinations of setting to see if I can narrow down where the deficiency is coming from. I will post more results as I run and analyze them.
