Hey Everyone,

I've recently noticed a faint hiss sound coming from both of my Trition Two towers when they are plugged in and ON. My AVR is off and the subwoofer region is still emitting this "hiss" sound. Has anyone else experienced this isssue or is it normal for these speakers to make this noise? When I get home today I'll move them to another area of my home, to try them on a different electrical circuit but I don't know if that will make a difference. Thanks for all your help.

Nick

Hi Nick. And here I thought I was the only person to even check for these kind of things! I have T1s and haven't noticed a hiss. However, it can be electrically related for sure, so your idea of moving to another circuit is good. The fact that you hear it from both would lead me to believe it is "somewhat" normal. By that I mean that the hiss should be faint, to the extent that you have to put your ear up next to the speaker (i.e. you shouldn't hear it from the listening position). Prior to the T1s I used (and still have) JBL S412P speakers. They too have a power amp and they emitted a hiss (or audible noise lets say, but not a hum). In that case it was normal and I would have to think that the amp in the T1s would emit some sound when on (receiving power, and the blue light can be off). Also, from an electrical perspective, how is the grounding in general at your location? Grounding issues can manifest itself as noise. Lastly, as I posted a thread previously about the diagnostics of these speakers, when they are completely off (no power being supplied not merely the blue light off) and then you power them on, if you are in the US the blue light sequence will be steadily lit for about 5 seconds and then flash exactly 25 times (once per second). Check that just for the sake of sanity although again there is likely no real issue here.

Something else... when you write "I recently noticed", is this to say you checked previously and there was no hiss and now there is, or you never actually checked and the first time you did check you noticed the hiss? If previously checked and there was no hiss, I would be more concerned because in that case something changed.

Disclaimer - I assume the T1s and your T2s are similar enough (internal amp wise and diagnostic check) that my feedback is meaningful. If that is not the case I apologize in advance.

Hope all this helps.

If you can't hear it from your listening seat, its not a problem.

Hi Stroked,
I have T 2s and never noticed any noise. But then again, I never got on my knees and listened either.
I agree with the Moderator Dude, it should not be a problem if you can't hear it from your main listening position.
But GDHAL asked some good questions for diagnosing the problem. LOTs of things can cause some noise.
I used to hear the refrigerator that was on the same circuit as my stereo, when it kicked in and turned off the compressor.
Now I have a dedicated circuit for my home theater to avoid such noise.
I am pretty sure, IF it is a problem to you, you can search out the problem.
But those things can be hard to find.
Hang in there and enjoy.
Please let us know if you figure it out.
God Bless,
Wayne

As others have said, if you can't hear it from more than a couple inches away, ignore it. Any way, its probably not your speaker, its probably either your power or some other device on the same circuit producing noise. So if you CAN hear it from a ways away, or if it bothers you, I'd look into a true audiophile purposed power conditioner.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I did move one of the speakers to a different circuit and the noise is still there. I can't hear it at my main listening position. Only when you're within 1' of the sub section. I'll ignore it for now, hopefully it won't become more of an annoyance. Thanks again.
