I just got a pair of triton 7s for my 21st birthday and love them. i currently am using them as front lest and right in a home theater setup. As of right now I have a emotiva umc 200 preamp and a emotiva upa 500 80 wpc amplifier powering the speakers. I use them in my room which is roughly 12x12 and have a hsu vtf 15h subwoofer. My question is, do you think upgrading my amp to a more powerful stereo amp, such as the emotiva xpa-2, upgrade my listening experience by a marginal amount? I am not sure if i should invest in a bigger amp or just keep the one i have. i use my system for 70% movies/ video games and 30% music. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You don't NEED more power, but you will appreciate it in the improved dynamics and bass response, at all levels but especially when cranking it up a bit. Because you are using an outboard sub, the power demands on the Triton Sevens are significantly reduced (assuming you are high-passing them), so 80 wpc is really plenty. Of course, 300 horsepower may be plenty too, but we all want 500 in our sports cars now.

I mean i was eventually going to use a 7.2 setup when I move out in a few years so it wouldn't hurt to get a nice big amp now. any other suggestions other than the emotiva in the 700/800 dollar price range

ckubs,

At that price range, Emotiva may be hard to beat. You could check out some refurbished Marantz amps or Outlaw Audio. Outlaw is a major competitor of Emotiva and gets a lot of industry praise as well.

Cheers,

If you decide to upgrade, if you can swing it, I would recommend spending a few extra bucks and get 2 XPA-1Ls over the XPA 2. I've had both. Both will make you very happy, but the 1Ls are noticably better for around $300 more.
Living Room:
Triton 1 - R,L
SuperCenter XL - Center
Triton 2 - Surrounds
SuperSat 50 - Rear surrounds
Emotiva XMC-1 pre/pro
Emotiva XPA-1 G2 monoblocks, R/L/C,
Emotiva XPA-1L monoblocks: surrounds, rears

Home Office Office:
Triton 7 - R,L
Emotiva XPA1-L, Stealth DC-1 DAC
