Hi,

We are considering purchasing the TritonCinema Two and are concerned about the placement around our entertainment unit. Our last speakers were placed right next to the unit and about 6" from the wall. I noticed that the Triton II's have side reflectors. These would end up facing the entertainment unit. What would that mean to the sound and is this placement workable?

Thanks for your assistance,
Marshall

The side firing passive radiators produce energy only at very low (non-directional) frequencies. It will be no more of a problem to have the speakers close to the side wall with the Tritons then with any other full range speaker. However, the Tritons would give you the benefit of the bass section volume control, which would allow you to dial-in the best response for the speaker when in the desired/demanded location. I'm sure the Tritons will sound fantastic in that setting.

I also talked to the owner of the local audio store where we auditioned the speakers. When asked if the store offered a 30 day return policy if the speakers just would not work, he stated that they really would have a problem doing that because the speakers would then be considered "out of the box" item. And that would make it harder to sell them. He did offer to bring the store display speakers for a test run.

A few years ago I ran into a store that did not have a return policy and the speakers could not fill the room. I do not have lots of time to test these speakers and an hour would not be adequate. :S What is Golden Ear's thoughts on this?

I would suggest taking the dealer up on his offer to bring the store display models to your home for an in-home demo, That's a very nice offer and one that should easily answer any concerns you have - not sure about the "one hour" part, but I'm sure you could arrange a demo in your home that is long enough for you to reach a conclusion as to whether they will work for you in your room, or not (realistically, once setup you should be able to discern that very quickly). Of course I can't imagine any circumstance where they would not be... :)
