Hello

I have a pair of ESS AMT-1 Towers which use Heil AMT technology. I've had these speakers for I guess about 30 years. I love them, but I think it might be time to move into the current century. Do speakers degrade over time? (I have had the woofers replaced once).

I'm going to listen to a pair in Sacramento today.

Can you tell me how the the tweeter technology compares to the tech I've been using? The AMT-1's have awesome bass, will the sub-equipped Triton Two's blow me away?

Will I hear a noticeable improvement in audio depth / color / quality over my current speakers?

Also, regarding LFE, is there any program material on the LFE channel that is NOT on the primary L/R channels? I'm wondering about the recommendation to not use the LFE out in setting these up.

Thanks!

I do not claim to be an expert but I do know that over time the older woofer cones did tend to sag a bit thus distorting the sound and reducing efficiency.
The newer ribbon tweeters are superb!
Say "Hi" to Kevin if you are going to Paradyme.
I auditioned the Triton II's a couple of weeks ago, and they are AWESOME!!!
Just need some green to acquire them!

I am very famliar with that speaker, I sold it at retail a LONG time ago :) .

In general, modern speakers do not degrade, although there are moving parts so eventual wear out is possible/probable. The deteriorating woofers in the AMT are an example, although modern materials and manufacturing have eliminated this type of failure.

The GoldenEar HVFR tweeter is a modern day incarnation of the Heil technology, retaining all the sonic benefits but vastly improved overall. Based on my recollection of the bass on the AMT-1, you will not be disappointed in the Triton's bass. This area has come a LONG way in 30 years.

Regarding LFE, as soon as the L/R speakers are set to "Large" and Subwoofer is set to "None", all LFE information is directed to the L/R speakers by the receiver/processor.

Hope this answers your questions. Enjoy your upcoming audition.
