Can anyone that has upgraded from the SCXXL to the SCR explain some of the differences? I realize the drivers and crossovers are different, but the specs are basically the same. When I had my SCXXL paired with T1s, it was definitely lacking, but now paired with TRs, there has been a big improvement in the sound. I have to assume that the addition of the TRs cleaned up the bass in the room along with moving the T1s to the surround positions and going from 7.2 to 7.4. Right now I'm in an odd shaped room that acoustically pretty bad and realize that it's a big part of my problem.

I'm using and OPPO 205. Denon AVR X400, and 3 Parasound JC-1s for LRC.

Hi, and welcome!

I had a SC XL for years, with T1 fronts first, then T Ref fronts.

I would compare the sonic uptick from the SCXXL to the SC Ref as similar to the uptick from the T1's to the T Ref's.

Everything is cleaner, more detailed, and bass can go deeper, effortlessly as well.

I loved the SCXXL with both the T1's and T Ref's, but the SC Ref just takes it all a notch or two better, and blends PERFECTLY with the T Ref's.

Hope this helps.

Thx for the input. I've seen similar reviews and was trying to glean more info to help with my upgrade decision. Now, my SCXXL sounds pretty good which makes it tougher. Unfortunately, my dealer doesn't have a SCR to listen to or compare. I would think the SCR would better match the T1Rs and was wondering/hoping for a center with 6" matching drivers to the TR. I've also considered using 3 TRs across the front, but that would need a different room, need an AT screen, and a little farther down my time line.

I'm not sure if this needs to go under another subject, but I see you're running LFE1 to the Refs and LFE2 to the T1's. I just Y'd LFE1 between the TR, T1 left and Y'd LFE2 between TR, T1 right. What are your thoughts on the LFE and did you try different things?

BTW there was a typo in my first response: I had the SCXXL for several years with the T1's and T Ref's. The post said XL.

Though over the years re centers I have progressed from a SuperSat 50c to the new at the time top of the line SuperCenter XL, then to the again new XXL, then the SC Ref. ALL of these centers tonally matched my other GEt speakers, which also changed over time. I was originally concerned about keeping driver sizes as close to the same as possible, thinking, it turns out incorrectly, that different driver sizes just had to have slightly different tonal signatures. I was wrong. I don't have a clue how Goldenear does it, but driver size is not an issue at all with speaker selection. I have walked between the T Ref's while playing with their 6" mid range drivers and the SC Ref with their 5.25" drivers, and there is NO difference in mid and treble SQ between the two. NONE! And of course the tweeters are the same.

Re LFE setups, I debated between L/R and front/rear connections for sub 1 vs sub 2, and chose front/rear. I didn't experiment, but wanted to be able to balance bass front/rear levels. I guess I can't answer which might deal with room modes better, but 4 subs in four corners does a great job in that regard, and I love being able to have control over how bass effects sound. I want rear action in movies, like Tiger tanks firing in back in "Fury" to not sound sound like they are firing in front. Lots of options here I suppose, but I have never second guessed my set up on LFE.

Happy listening!
