In my seemingly never-ending experiments with my audio system, I have now rearranged my Golden Ear speakers once again -- this time to create "A Wall of Golden Ear Sound". I have all of my Golden Ear speakers in front of me - arranged across the front of my room and with each pair driven by a separate AV receiver.

From Left to right: A Golden Ear Triton Seven, a Golden Ear SuperSat 3C on a shelf, and a Golden Ear Triton One -- then, the second Triton One, the second SuperSat 3C, and finally, the second Triton Seven. On the two sides, parallel with my listening position, are my two ancient Altec Lansing Bolero units, driven by a separate 4th AV receiver.

Because each pair of speakers is driven by a separate AV receiver, I can adjust the volume levels for each pair independently. The result is truly a 180 degree wall of sound, extending from directly left of my listening position, all the way around to directly right of my listening position.

My Paradigm sub-woofer is on the rear of the room on my left and my Klipsch sub-woofer is on my left.

I have just finished this rearrangement and I am still "auditioning" the setup with some of my favorite music. As I type, I am listening to "Love for Three Oranges", suite from the ballet by Sergei Prokofiev.

What fun!!!

Best,

Art

Does it take that many speakers to make them sound good? Makes my little array seem positively minuscule by comparison. Now for an interesting and true story:

Way back in the 1950s, when I was a teenager and living in Memphis, Tn., I had an early audiophile on my morning paper route. In those ancient days, we not only delivered the paper, but we also visited each home on a weekly or monthly basis to collect the payments for the paper.

Well, one evening, my audiophile customer invited me in to see his speaker setup. One entire wall of his room had been removed and rebuilt with an array of built-in speakers. Each speaker was a 4 inch diameter unit and there were probably over a hundred of these small speakers mounted in that wall. The entire system was monaural (the mid-fifties date pre-dated stereo). The effect was stunning, including very ample bass response. I do not remember what equipment he was using to drive the array. The playback medium was LPs and reel-to-reel tapes.

"Nothing new under the sun"?

One more adjustment to my "Wall of Golden Ear Sound". I discovered today that my Altec Lansing Boleros were not performing as they should in their long-time "side" positions, so I moved them to the rear of the room. They are still separately driven and are phased as "rear fronts" - which means that they are set up left-right as I hear them from my PLP. I have their volume adjusted to add depth to the total room sound, but I am not aware of their presence as I listen - unless I turn them off.

I continue to be pleased with this speaker arrangement.

Here is my system in a Nutshell:
7.3.2 system
Golden Ear Triton 2 front L/R
Powered by McIntosh MC-7270....270 watts per channel
Center channel Martin Logan 50XT
Height channel Martin Logan AFX (pair)
L/R Surround Niles HD8 in wall (pair)
Rear Channel Bose 201(pair)
Sub Woofer Definitive Technology Super Cube 2
Denon AVR-X6200W

My living room has a very tall cathedral ceiling which goes from 8 feet to 22 feet at its highest point.
All speakers except for GE Tritons are powered by the Denon 6200.
Totally immersive sound.
Compared to my first system at age 15 in 1958, this system is awesome.
