Moderator wrote: Hey, whatever works for you, that's why the control is on there. I have mine at about 1 o'clock or so, it all depends on the room and your listening position. No worries, you can't hurt them.

Why would I get gain at the 30-80hz band if my external subs are only playing 40hz and below?

The crossover is not a brick wall, it might be 18dB (3rd order) or 24dB (4th order) per octave, so a 40Hz crossover means 80Hz is still present at maybe 15-20dB down...

So with the crossover @ 40hz, is that doubling of sound, even though it is 15db down, from the external subs along with the Tritons a problem? My goal is clarity of sound coming from the Tritons, but if I don't use the PB12s that's $2500 wasted just sitting there. I'd hate to shut them off. I mean I am not a golden ear (pun intended) audiophile and it sounds good to me, so I suppose I should just go with that. It's just nice to hear you're not crazy from the source, meaning you guys.

Well, with a 40Hz setting on the sub it may be down 3dB at 40 (depends on how the control works), but the Triton will be at full output at 40Hz, so yes, you are "doubling" up at those frequencies. Using additional subs with Tritons without bass management is not going to be the right solution (their bass response is too good and extended). With bass management, for music playback, easy to get benefits. For HT, a bit more difficult depending on the desired benefit.

Bottom line, if it sounds good to you, you're done. Just ask member Wayne, no such thing as too much bass :)

Yeah Moderator Dude, I was gonna say!!!!
You can't have too much bass, but Dm Dude, RESPECT!!!!!
I don't honestly know what you are doing or how you are doing it.
You say you have to run the subs on the Triton 2s at 2 O'CLOCK???????
I love my bass but I don't run mine above 11:00 and normally at 10:00- 10:30 max.
I never tried it, gonna have to. I guess I reckoned I would get ear or maybe even room damage!!!!
The subs are not stressing at that level? How much power do you have going into the Triton 2s?
I am gonna try turning them up when I get home.
Anybody else listening that cranked up???
If the wife hears this, you gotta help me with the divorce!!!
Pls let us know what you work out.
Thanks for your posts, enjoy,
God Bless,
Wayne

lol Wayne. I don't think I'm stressing them and as the moderator said, you can't hurt them. 2 o'clock works as the speakers are in the middle of the room in a null it seems. I have to place them there so turning the subs up is my only option. The good part is that I'm nearfield so they aren't playing as loud. I'm driving them with a Bryston 4BSST2 btw.

I'm scratching the crossover as I don't want to dilute the signal and introduce more cables. I wanted to not stress the Tritons but the mod said they are pretty much idestructable. The other issue is cabinet vibration with the subs playing at 2 o'clock, but the imaging and clarity seems to be unaffected. I think I am going to try the system with just the Tritons running and unplugging the subs just to make sure the bass is not being muddied. I can hook the 2 SVS PB12s back up to my HT with 4 SVS PB 13s lol.
