Ah, Tritons are Full Range plus sub? Then no, 40Hz is probably too high, try 30Hz. My Triton Twos are room flat to below 25Hz (in my room), adding in a sub at 40Hz and below is going to give you too much gain in the 30-80Hz range (unless you like that, in which case, that's perfect).

Yes full range plus 2 subs.

Why would I get gain at the 30-80hz band if my external subs are only playing 40hz and below?

Hey, whatever works for you, that's why the control is on there. I have mine at about 1 o'clock or so, it all depends on the room and your listening position. No worries, you can't hurt them.

Why would I get gain at the 30-80hz band if my external subs are only playing 40hz and below?

The crossover is not a brick wall, it might be 18dB (3rd order) or 24dB (4th order) per octave, so a 40Hz crossover means 80Hz is still present at maybe 15-20dB down...

Cool, thanks dude. Any thoughts on the spatial effects and room issue question I posted earlier?

Dm wrote: Another question for you: my room is 12x12x8 and has always favored the right side of the room for the 3d sort of effects where the sounds eminate from outside of the Triton (or whatever speaker I've had). This side of the room is enclosed. The left side of the room has a doorway (that is open) that the left channel sits next to. I have had to move the left channel forward a foot or two to balance the channels. The voice is dead center this way, but the sounds always eminate directly from the speaker (regardless of it's position) and not out side of it like the right channel with the wall. I assume that it is the wall/boundary causing this. I can install a door next to the left channel if necessary to fix this issue. After living with my audio gear in this room for a decade I *think* it is the room causing this. What do you recommend to get more of the spacial 3d sort of imaging out of the left channel? Thank you.

Without being there, I can only guess, but I think you actually have the culprit figured out. You are getting boundary gain and reflected energy on one side, and not the other. If its easy, add the boundary (a door) and see what happens...
