Hello! This is my first post on the board and I am seeking advice on speaker placement for a Dolby Atmos system in my open floor plan home.
I am working with my local dealer and he has suggested a 5.1.4 system using Triton 2+ for Front L/R, SuperCenter XL for Center, Invisa HTR 7000s for Heights and Supersat 3s for surrounds, plus a subwoofer (maybe ForceField 5 for the rear). Below is a copy of the email that I sent to the dealer and his response with pictures of the space that I am working with.
Any advice that the members of this board may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
Dealer Response
Looking at the pictures seems like you have some good options. I am thinking a 5.2 system with atmos. Tritons , center, sub up front, Sat threes as rears with a sub behind the dining table
Use the in wall HTR as the four atmos in the ceiling as they can be turned to aim down. Of course the system can be tuned as far as levels to achieve good performance.
We very rarely get to do a room that is "just right" so we have to deal with whats there. If you get time come by and we can look at the pictures together so we can be on the same page.
My Email
I am still interested in putting together a Dolby Atmos system using the Triton 2+ Towers and the SuperCenter XL for the Center. I am less confident in the best surround and height speaker configuration for my space. I’ve attached a floorplan and some photos of the space that I am dealing with. I’ve added some notes to the pictures regarding some ideas that may work, but I’m not sure what to do about ATMOS speakers. My original idea was to use the Tritons and SuperCenter Upfront and use SuperSat 3s for the Surrounds and Tops, but I am concerned that I won’t have enough vertical separation between the surrounds and tops. I thought maybe I could use the HTR 7000 as the sides and surrounds because they are designed to direct the sound down to ear level and use the SuperSat 3s or maybe the other Invisas for height speakers.
I am dealing with several problems because of the open floor plan and the inability to put surround speakers at ear level. Also, the sharply sloped ceiling could be a problem for Atmos. Let me know if you think the XTR 7000s might be an option for me or using in ceiling speakers for the Top speakers may work better than the SuperSats.
(Note: The ceiling is sloped from a height of approximately 16' in the front to approximately height of 8' in the rear over a 22' run, which results in a slope of approximately 20 degrees from front to back)

Hey, Fafa2e
Welcome to the forum!
I really like your thorough approach to installing your HT system, AND love the gorgeous room and space!!
The front T2+'s and SCXL will be perfect. With the ceiling slope you're dealing with, I would guess that Moderator Dude will need to weigh in on what will work best on those heights and angles. Re Supersats you were sketching as possible height speakers, I would suggest thinking about Invisa 525's or 650's for that duty (the tweeters can be angled toward the listening positions), if Moderator Dude says Invisa HTR 7000's wouldn't work at those heights/angles. I do agree with your dealer's overall recommendation of using HTR 7000's for heights, IF they will work in your case. The Invisa series make outstanding height speakers!
For surrounds, Supersats or MPX's seem good candidates, or HTR 7000's if a ceiling position is chosen.
You're heading for a great system!!
Good luck and happy listening!
Rick

Welcome Fafa2e - nice room.
All good advice, using the HTR 7000s for your height channels and countering the slope may well be a great solution, really hard to tell without physically standing in the room.
Surrounds should be at ear level if at all possible to properly distinguish from height channels.
When adding the Tritons, you will want to separate them more than your current front speakers and then toe them in toward the center.

Thank you for the responses. I just spoke with my dealer and I am scheduling an in-home assessment to determine which surround and height speakers will work best in my space and proper speaker configuration.
I am now thinking that a 5.2.4 layout using 4 HTR 7000s and 2 Invisa 650s may be a good solution. Do you think that placing the HTR 7000s in the back corners angled towards the MLP (about 11' away in the ceiling) would provide the illusion of ear level surrounds? I believe that I read somewhere on this forum that the HTR 7000's have a 30 degree angle and adding the 20% slope of my ceiling would result in a 50% angle, maybe a little less because of the toe-in.
I'm thinking I could use 2 650s as the rear height speakers as the ceiling is already sloped 20 degrees towards the MLP and I can angle the tweeters as necessary. The speaker height here would be about 11 ft.
Finally, I could use the HTR 7000s for the front height speakers which would result in an approximate 10 degree angle (30 degree angle of speaker drivers less 20 degree angle of ceiling) towards the MLP and the speakers would be at a height of approximately 14 ft.
I like this idea because it would make for a clean install with only the front speakers visible in the room and the back wall is an outside concrete block wall, so in-wall speakers are not possible.
Let me know if you think this setup would work acoustically? Hopefully my dealer can provide more insight with the in-home assessment.
Thank you again. It's good to be able to bounce these ideas off of like-minded people.

If you end up with Invisa 650's as top rears and HTR 7000's as top fronts, that would sound great. I have 525's as top rears and 7000's as top fronts, and they work together beautifully, seamlessly.
Your dealer's in home assessment should give you a good idea if 7000's will work as rear surrounds.
Sure sounds like an impressive system you're creating!
Happy listening!
