I spent some time the last few days listening to "soft' music, played in the 50-55 db range. Usually, if actively listening, I love the impact of GEt's delivering music around 75 db. Such dynamics! For virtually all of my adult listening experience, I have "pushed the volume" to 70+ db to get an effect I liked. Until GEt gave me an option.
Well, I heard a whole range of music at 50-55 db (as surround, 5.2.4/Atmos), and, well, those speakers never lost the depth and bass potency. They kept saying "we've got this covered". I could just sense the richness, detail, dynamics and potency at ANY volume level. l NEVER had that before with any other system I've ever owned or listened to.
What has been other folk's experience with GEt systems? I love what I can hear at 75 db, but I am also blown away at what those GEt rascals can do to deliver gorgeous, full music at 50 db...

Hi Rick. I rarely listen as low as 50db, but I agree there are times when that range is appropriate. Typically I listen in a relatively wide range of 70 - 105 db or so. However, that said, I haven't actually measured the levels using any kind of instrument. Instead, I use various "charts" that categorize in general terms examples of sounds at different levels. This chart www.hearnet.com/at_risk/risk_trivia.shtml is interesting in that it draws a distinction between "environmental noise" and musical noise".
From my experience with the Triton's they do sound great at low volumes, however, I note the GET manual does include a "recommended amplification" rating which in the case of the T1s is 20 - 650 watts. 20 watts is loud! I do think the speakers tend to "shine" at about 4 watts and higher as opposed to lower wattage. Probably because the bass drivers need some sense of power to become "engaged", but this is merely my opinion/experience. At very low volumes/wattage (db) I don't think the bass drivers (with bass dial at midpoint) are "satisfied". This doesn't mean that the listener couldn't or wouldn't be satisfied though

Hi, GDHAL
How much the bass drivers respond at what db levels would also depend on music type/content. But when I put my ears near the Triton's bass drivers and radiators when playing music at 50-55 db, they are definitely engaged and doing their part. (Wouldn't do that when playing LOUD.)
I guess what I hear with the Triton towers especially is that the bass portion is ALWAYS there, and always proportional to the other frequency ranges, at any volume level. For me, it seems with other speakers/systems, I HAVE to push the volume to get a sense of bass presence/balance (and limit the upper range to when treble starts to sound harsh). No such lower and upper limits with GEt's... smooth, full bodied and rich at all ranges.
As I write this, I am listening to Seals and Crofts' This Day Belongs to Me at 55 db, and the bass portion is so well defined, as is the the whole frequency range. 55db is not my new favorite way to always listen... still love 75 or more db for REALLY enjoying good, dynamic music. I just remain amazed that I can get the whole sense of the music's full range at most any volume I choose to listen at.

Rick, good point about the the type of music and its content. Of course that can effect how much the bass drivers do or do not respond. However, to your point about bass always being there and being proportional to other frequencies, that should depend on the bass control setting. All the way up or down should result in a disproportionate amount of bass, relative to other frequencies. Suffice it to say I agree the Triton's sound great at any db

Keep in mind that our human hearing loses sensitivity at the frequency extremes as volume drops. For those not familiar, this is called the Fletcher-Munson curve and is the reason for the once ubiquitous Loudness button, replaced now with the more complicated (and even more damaging to the sound, IMHO) Dolby Volume system found on most modern products.
