HIGH RECOMMENDATIONS TO FOLLOW!!!!
Thanks to good reviews on Amazon, and their shipping to me while I was in America, I brought home a couple of gems.
I had never heard of the violinist Nikolaj Znaider but his Beethoven Concerto along with some Bach and Mendelsshon's are to die for here on blu-ray!!!!
The Gewandhaus Orchestra (with MANY of the great players from the Lucerne Festival Orchestra) is in great form here under the very capable leadership of Riccardo Chailly.
The PQ is 10 outta 5, it is just the BEST!!!! SQ is 5/5, pretty much perfect.
This is recorded in DTS-HD MA 5.1 and the sound is LUSCIOUS!!!!!
NO screechy violin here. IF you want to hear some of the best recorded violin sound ever, IMHO, listen to this Larghetto movement in the Beethoven (and throughout the disc), the tone is sweet and awesome in his highest of notes available on the violin. In fact, I find this sound to be on the warm side. The bass really comes through. The weight of the orchestra is really felt. But, at least on my system, the sound is not light or bright. I love it, but YMMV on your system.
My Triton Ones seem to shine with the warmth of my few tubes in the signal path!!!!
As Musical and natural a sound as you would ever want.
Please consider getting this wonderful disc.
Secondly, I got and am now listening to the blu-ray of the Verdi "Requiem", this time the one with Mariss Jansons conducting the (sp?) Choir and Symphony orchestra of Bayerischen Rundfunks.
Once again the sound is DTS-HD MA 5.1 meaning, as above, the bass is rendered like it would be in a movie, and is rich and rfull.
The PQ and SQ are as above, 10/5 and 5/5 respectively.
Jansons' direction is, once again , superb, I prefer him to Chailly above. The soloists are awesome, except to look at. The choir sound is amazing!!!!
There are no nits to pick here, from my part, this is as good as it gets, IF you like this sort of thing. MANY will not find this so accessible, and I must admit being in that group. This will be an acquired taste for me to listen to often.
IF you like vocals with your classical music (and I don't usually), I doubt you can get much better than this. IF any such could grow on a guy, this just might grow on me.
Hope these help someone out there,
God Bless,
Wayne
