Yeah, Bro T.
I also quit band and joined the choir.
I am a much better singer than I am trombonist and I am not a very good singer. (Well I am legendary in my own mind!)
I was first chair trombone in a small OKla high school band. That was cool in marching band season, football games and such, because the trombones got to march in the front row right behind the twirlers and Glenda was something to watch from behind I can tell you!!! My best buddy, Danny Paul was some jealous, he played the tuba and had to march in the back.
But in concert season the first chair trombone was closest to the audience in our bass clef brass section (trumpets on opposite side). Danny Paul was in the back here too, at the end of the row, next to the bass drum.
We were playing a serious piece in a all school afternoon "assembly" and I had the great (??) idea to add a cha cha cha at the end. I told the second chair, final cha cha cha in B flat, pass it down. Everyone smiled and passed it down until it got to Danny Paul, who said, let Wayne play it by himself, pass it back but not to him. So they did.
I added the cha cha cha at the end all by myself to the disgusted look of the band director who had been a former Marine Drill Sargent. I got in trouble, all by myself.
Natural born leader, NOT.
My senior year we moved to Cheyenne, WY and I simply was not good enough for their concert band (and it was WAY too cold for the marching band!!!), so I joined the choir. Loved it so much I was in choir my first two college years too.
And we got to sing awesome music like this.
Sorry for the meandering memories.
God Bless,
Wayne
