The only idea I have come up with is to wrap window screening around the lower half though I'm not sure that would be enough. And no, getting rid of the cat is not a helpful suggestion.
thanks. Phil
You have expressed my most morbid fear. When I had T1s (I now have TRefs), I had the opportunity to keep a friend's cat when she was on vacation. The friend, not the cat. Although the cat considered it a vacation too. I was very concerned the cat would go for the T1 socks as a scratching post.
What we did was have at least two nearby scratching posts, and the cat was never interested in the T1s. Thank God. The cat did have a sense of humor and would sneak up behind me when I was sitting on the couch at the prime listening position, then deliberately put her claws into the back of the couch and "pop"..."pop"..."pop" them out, whereupon I would erupt with a roar, and the cat would vanish down the hallway, laughing the whole time, I'm sure.
But she never went for the T1s. Maybe she knew that would be a deadly force incident.
So maybe, if you haven't already, put out several scratching posts and make sure the cat really likes to use them.
THEN get the T1s.
I sincerely wish you luck!
Charlie

But, there are things you can spray on or near the speaker that will keep the cats away. Also, the socks are replaceable, so you could just let them go at it until they are bored and then replace the socks.

Moderator, you know, if I could only trade in the T1's for a good deal on the references, problem solved! Next time you talk to Sandy, let him know that a fellow (ex) Baltimoron (Milford Mill/Liberty Rd) is in need! -Phil

I appreciate the response- thing is, maybe some cats aren't interested in speaker grills, mine has scratching posts all over the place and uses them, but still goes for every speaker grill as well-guess he likes variety. I tried the sprays, sticky tape etc. Doesn't work for very long. Yes, I can spend $150 to replace both socks but it's a real pain to replace them and I still have to look at them till they are replaced. I have both T1's and T2's but have kept them behind closed doors till now when it's not going to be possible going forward. I have to replace the cloth on a pair of Avantgarde Duo's to sell them, and that's enough damage.

How will trading up speakers solve the problem any more than trading the current cat for a Maine-coon? The trefs have sock material covering the passive radiators on the sides as well as the entire front baffle. If you want a good trade-in deal, it’s your local dealer that you need to chat up.
