Hi there,
I've just purchased a pair of Triton 1 loudspeakers, to be matched to a MacIntosh tube amp/preamp system. I'm wondering about the fact that those speakers will most likely be on another electrical circuit for powering their internal amplifier, and whether a) there could be a phase discrepancy between that circuit and the one delivering power to the amp/preamp, and b) If that would be a factor in optimizing the system's capabiliity, and c) whether I should consider any sort of line conditioning for the speaker's amplifiers.

Thanks.

Hi Rick G, and welcome here!
Congratulations on your new TOnes, they are AWESOME speakers, you are gonna love them!!!!!
Good questions.
I will try to answer to the best of my ability, but I am no expert, so just from a few years of experience.
1 it would be highly unlikely for your other circuit, the one where the TOnes are plugged in, to be out of phase with another circuit in your home.
2 so I would not worry about having them plugged into a different circuit than the Macs. In fact some would recommend that (less chance of noise from one side getting to the other side).
3 the power amps inside your TOnes like to have plenty of power to draw from, so it is usually recommended that they are plugged directly into the wall socket. I would only plug them into a power conditioner IF it also offers surge protection, and IF that is really needed in your area (surges or dips, fluctuations in you power supply, lightening strikes, etc.). Generally speaking a power conditioner is not needed for your speakers, BUT where I live we do have serious issues and my TOnes are worth a LOT to me, so yes, I do plug them into a power conditioner.
I feel certain you will have a wonderful system, enjoy it. Hope this helps!!!!
God Bless,
Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.

Hi Rick. Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your new Triton One's.

I think the answer to your question is yes, technically there could be a phase discrepancy between two different circuits and that it could be factor in optimizing the system's capability. However, from a practical perspective I think it unlikely. I think you would need a qualified electrician to take some measurements and make a true assessment though. There are some folks on the audiogon forum who are extremely knowledgeable with this type of question. If you post in the amplifier section you shall surely get a response. Or just do a search for "phase" and other related terms forum.audiogon.com/topics/amps-preamps

As for "conditioning", I took a relatively inexpensive and *measurably better* (as in oscilloscope) approach. Specifically, I am using a dedicated (separate breaker) 20 AMP wall outlet >>> Emotiva CMX-2 >>> Panamax MR4300 >>> all audio and video equipment. So, in my case, I do *not* have my Triton's on a separate outlet than the amp.
Golden Ear Triton Reference (pair), Musical Fidelity M6si, Schiit Yggdrasil-OG-B, Oppo UDP-205, Emotiva ERC-3, LG OLED65C9PUA, Salamander Synergy Triple Unit SL20, Audeze LCD-X, GIK acoustic paneling

Thanks, GDHAL! This is precisely the information I was hoping for. I will ask our electrician to compare the phase between the two different circuits, and I will also take your suggestions for line conditioning and surge protection.

Regards,
Rick
