Hi all ... just a quick question about placing speakers within a BDI Octave 8379 cabinet (www.bdiusa.com/products/octave-quad-widt...dia-cabinet-8379-gfl). My wife wants all of the speakers hidden in our new house, and I'm thinking of getting a media cabinet like the BDI Octave 8379, removing the shelves on the left/right sections and putting in Aon 3s for the L/R channels. And then doing a SuperCenter X or XL in the center portion. I'm curios if anyone has used BDI with their claim of "providing complete acoustic transparency." And more importantly, since the Aon and SuperCenter will be enclosed, do you think they'll still sound ok? With their top and side drivers, I was curious what your thoughts would be. I'm assuming it will sound better than a SuperCinema, given the bigger drivers. Please let me know your thoughts before I purchase!

Based on the website, the doors are acoustically transparent so that's good - I have to take them at their word because I've never seen these particular doors. I'd place the speakers as close to the front as possible without hitting the BDI's doors. Assuming there are a few inches to the side of the Aon 3 and above the SuperCenter, you should be fine.

Can you adjust the left, right and center shelf heights instead of removing them? It would be nice to get the tweeters all about the same height.

Thank you. You can adjust the left and right, but only to give 13” of height on the shelf. Not quite enough for the Aon 3. But now that I read about the BRX, I’m wondering if I should wait!! Those are 12” high and would fit. I’m assuming they would sound better as well. It’s a large room (14’x16’) with one side open to a kitchen. But this is just a TV room, not the main media room. And the wife wants a clean look with no standing speakers.

Would the Aon 3 or BRX be a better choice with the SuperCenter XL for the room (with a SVS sub)? If so, any ideas on when Q1 the BRX is available?

And I’m assuming that both of those options would provide better performance than a SuperCinema X, right?

We hope to have the BRX shipping sometime in Q1 2020, not sure exactly when. It is better than the Aon 3, but is also more expensive. Right now we are shooting for $1400 - $1500 per pair. SuperCenter XL will do well with it.

The Aon 3 or BRX with a SuperCenter or a 3D Array? The 3D Array technology is really cool if your speakers are too close together, but they might be far enough apart for your needs in the BDI cabinet. The 3D Array does not have the lower mid-bass capability that the others have.

I thought the other post on the BRX said they would be $599 each. Is that not true? I also heard from my local dealer that prices were going up 10% on October 1st, any truth to that?

BRX final costing is not yet determined. Preliminary pricing estimate at this point is $699-$749 each in the USA when the speaker launches next year.

It is true that there is a price hike coming October 1, 2019 that averages 10% across the line.
