Im looking to put together a new HT setup. I want to do Triton 1s, and Super Center XXL for L/C/R.

What I'm trying to figure out is if I should spend the extra money and get a pair of Triton 2 + for the surrounds, or get a pair of Super Sat 60 and a Super Sub XXL ?

I kind of like the idea of not having to use a stand alone sub, and I would think that between the built in subs between the Triton 1&2s would be enough bass.

Im also thinking that the revisions to the Triton 2s would make them a better batch sonically to the 1s.

Any input would be greatly appreciated !

Your conclusions are all correct. Triton Ones and Twos would be enough bass for most, and the new Two+ is a better match to the Triton One.

Hi, Roger1

I have T1's as fronts plus T2's as surrounds (not T2+'s), plus a SCXXL. The sound field cohesiveness has always amazed me, and the bass from the 4 powered Triton subs is room filling.. the whole HT experience beats anything I hear in theaters by a lot, for richness and immersiveness of the sound, and the beautiful, clean, bass. I sure love my set-up. T2+'s would be a step or two even better.

Whichever option you choose, good luck and happy listening!

Roger1,

The T1s put out a lot of bass. Properly calibrated, my system has plenty of power in reserve. Using the LFE hook ups and with my gain knob at the 12:00 position, my sub channels are still set at around -9 and I'm 5dB high! Having the T2+ for the rear channels would give you even better dispersion and channel matching all at the same time. If you wanted to run the SuperSubXXL, the T5s may be a better option than the SuperSat60s.

I'm using the Aon 3s with an external sub and also enjoy the resulting sound but I think the T1 and T2+ combo would be amazing, as Rick has described! Whatever you decide, it will sound great. I also agree on the sound quality versus movie theaters. My setup is better than most theaters I frequent with the possible exception of our local IMAX. As I stated in my other post, please share your results.

Cheers,

T Cobe

I think it depends on where you expect to place your surrounds. If they are side-surrounds and not rear-surround (5.1 and not 7.1), then they should be placed to the side of the main listening position, which may not be the best location for bass. If they will be placed in the rear along the rear wall, then your 4-sub setup will be more in line with the Harman recommendation for room modes for one of the most ideal setups possible. Then again, it all depends on your room and where placement of bass modules (either in-speaker or external) would be best. And every room is different. Also, it depends on how loud you listen. There's nothing better than the Tritons for smooth bass across a wide spectrum, but if you happen to listen very loudly, then a couple of XXL Subs would probably have way more bass by themselves than even the 4-sub combo of the T1 and T2s. And you can place those XXLs in more spots in the room = more flexibility.
7.1 today, moving to 7.1.4 tomorrow

(1) Sat 60C - center
(2) Sat 50s - sides
