I concur, both formats will survive but adopting early can be costly and frustrating. By way of example, the new Marantz 7702 that is Atmos capable will not be DTS:X capable. That has to be frustrating for anyone that went out and made the purchase. Between equipment compatibility and speaker placement, there are still too many issues for me to jump in, yet. Issues like these are not as prevalent on the picture side. The industry seems to cooperate in determining the screen formats; 1080p and UHD for example. I've never heard of a 1090P... Anyways, I'll look forward to the feedback from early adopters and eagerly anticipate the upgrade. I definitely feel it should be worth it. Thanks.

Please don't tell us over here in Asia that 3D failed, we are loving it!!!!
I don't find the glasses awful, and I have to wear them over regular glasses.
It is the cheap passive glasses in the theaters that do not do justice to 3D that make everything think it is no good. IF they saw it in my home theater, they would rush out and buy it!!!!!
Just sayin', I love 3D and have no time whatsoever for ATMOS or that stuff.

The biggest complaint I have is lack of software. The sound of Dolby Atmos is amazing and a totally different experience .
On a separate note, Marantz announced a plan to offer a software update to add new DTS:X immersive surround sound format to the AV8802A and AV8802 later this year. HDCP 2.2 upgrade will also be available.
It is one of the reason I purchased the Marantz 8802.

I'm with you. I will certainly NOT be buying an entire 5/7-channel layer on top of my existing 5/7-channel layer just to do Auro. Not only do I not have the ceiling height, but the cost of adding that layer is just too much. I hope DTS and Dolby take the market. I actually like DTS a whole lot more than Dolby anyway.

A refurbished 8802 is probably the path I will take eventually. It sounds like an amazing unit and is being hailed as highly capable at 2 channel as well. In the meantime, I'll get my speakers and amplification in order.
