huge difference Dolby Atmos provides.

The way my room laid out I need to go horizontal for the sides and the rears. It is my main living area not a dedication room. Window and door openings in key speaker placement areas made it impossible to go vertical. T

Ya I realize content is still lacking for sure. From everything I have read DTS:X can also use the layout from ATMOS. With both formats and with the upmixing that DTS:X offers I think its better to be more future proof. I don't want to be running more wires down the road. So anything that requires cutting in or running wires I want done now. Even if its a year or two before I can use them all the time. Its worth it for me as a demo piece as well. I am your typical early adopter and I totally realize the limited rewards you get for being one

Does anyone have a link that shows the DTS:X speaker layout recommendations? I've heard that there isn't a specific requirement, but at the same time, you would think that they would have some guidelines on where to put the speakers. Some customers might have Atmos, some might have Auro, and others might be starting from scratch.

The main advantage of DTS:X is the flexibility. It uses whatever positions you have to build an array and send sound to what you have. It is recommend like ATMOS to have ceiling speakers. It can also support the voice of god speaker like Auro. They don't have a specific recommendation. Most people are doing ATMOS setups because DTS:X will fully support it. It would be nice if you could have that and the voice of god speaker at the same time, but receivers are not built to handle both the 4 ceiling channels and a 5th voice of god speaker. I think you will likely see this in the higher-end pre/pros down the road, but I doubt it will come to the 9,11,13.x crowd any time soon (if ever).
