I currently have a Goldenear Supercinema 3d Array X with a Forcefield 4 sub and 2 Supersat 3's as surrounds- it sounds great, really fills my room. I'm getting a new 4k tv and have 2 more Supersat 3's that I can use for Atmos height speakers. I can't do much work on the room, so I'm thinking of mounting them with the tv on the wall using those wall mounting arms they use for center channels/soundbars. Best case scenario I would use them on top of the tv horizontally(as 3C's), but I've heard that the ribbon tweeter is glued in and should be oriented up/down (I could mount them vertically on the sides of the TV if best).

A couple of questions:

How does the orientation change the sound of ribbon tweeters?

I've read that ribbon tweeters have really wide dispersion, so if you rotate a Supersat 3 horizontally wouldn't that push the sound up and down and provide a better fill?

I love their sound, but clearly don't really understand the nuances of ribbon tweeters. Please help me make the most of my opportunity. I'm really excited to expand to Atmos and this is about the best setup I can do. Thanks!

As the tweeters are not exactly square their dispersion is slightly different one way vs. the other. The longer dimension will have a slightly more limited dispersion in that direction vs. the shorter one. By changing the tweeter orientation it can help a bit to minimize floor and ceiling reflections.

For what you propose, the extra SS3 speakers should work pretty well as height speakers. Perhaps not perfectly, but you won't know until you try it. And as room correction in AVRs and processors is getting better all the time, try running it on the system once you've set it up. It can help a lot with non-perfect setups (who's is perfect?) and you should be able to tweak the settings to make it sound how you want.
