Am considering buying the SC3DA. Already have a 10 year old AVR (Harman Kardon AVR 525, output is 70 watts/channel) and a sub (Hsu 10 inch) that I would use with the soundbar. My question is whether I can use some 10 year old Ascend bookshelf speakers as surrounds. Would they be compatible enough with the SC3DA? Also, would the Hsu sub work? I don't want to buy a new sub or surrounds, should I buy the SC3DA.

Happy Thanksgiving HSAmadeus,
Welcome to the craziness of Hi Fi upgrades.
YES, it will work. Part of the challenge and FUN of building a system is to try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Just keep trying to improve your system to suit yourself, a step at a time if your budget requires it. Most nearly all of us GoldenEar users are on a budget, we have to build our systems piece by piece, as we can.
I suspect your system will sound quite good if you add the sound-bar and put the bookshelf speakers in the rear as surrounds. The sub should help a lot too.
Would a matching, all GoldenEar system sound better, MOST probably. But we do what we can, when we can. The key is to have fun listening to music as you play with improving your system.
Enjoy and God Bless,
Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.

Yes, what Wayne said. No problem, just make sure to setup your bass management on the receiver properly and follow all the setup instructions in the 3D Array manual. GoldenEar surrounds later will be a nice addition.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate. Now I just have to decide if I want to cough up $1000 plus tax and travel costs (I would have to drive 400 miles round trip to buy one)' vs. buying a cheaper but not quite as good Atlantic Technology Powerbar 235 for about $600 with free shipping. Sigh.

Happy Thanksgiving to you both.

No travel necessary, your dealer can have the product sent directly to your home from our warehouse, just call with your CC and address and you're good to go. If you want big hi-fi sound from your system, not just better than the TV sound, there is really no choice. Remember, Sound & Vision called the award winning 3D Array "The Soundbar Standard".

I live in Kansas and order my GoldenEar speakers through Custom Electronics in Omah Nebraska. Free shipping and no sales tax.
Give your closest dealer a call ...mine usually arrive within 24 hours.
