I recently transitioned from an all Paradigm 5.1 sytem to my present system. Initially I bought pair of Triton 2s for fronts and SS60C for center and kept Paradigm ADPs for surround. Tried the spare (orinally front speakers) speakers as back surrounds.

I have been using Marantz SR7005 for over 2 years but never got to try either FW or SB.. So then I moved the spares to FW position and used A-DSX processing.....was really surprised with the difference in sound. I tried this experiment ( spare speaker in both these positions) with my spouse, kids and number of guests and they all felt movies sounded better using FW.

Since FW were sharing sound with my beautiful triton fronts and Ss60 C , i went ahead and bought pair of SS3 s for FW ?( to make it all ribbon tweeter front) and that made the sound center better. The paradigm ADPs are dipoles and do a good job covering the rear surround. I haven't yet tried the spare speakers in FH position as that would need wall mounting and cables showing on front wall (at least temporarily).... Probably try it soon and will let you know the results......and if good another pair of SS 3 s may be on their way to my house.

Audyssey labs websites FW over FH or better still FW + FH over SB.

Personally, while watching movies with FW and DSX, I find the sound more enveloping with a much wider soundstage giving a more real movie theater feeling. For music it is either stereo or source direct.

But then this is all personal.... So give it a try if you can and ....may be you will be surprised too like I was.

I could see myself being "forced" to buy some more speakers!!!!!!
Can you tell me where you have positioned the FW speakers? Sounds like they are on stands or floor standing? If so, where in comparison to the FL/R and seating position?
I have read the same website saying FW sound better than SB.
I would REALLY be interested in your results if you try them as FH instead, or together with FW.
Now you really have me curious and wanting to try this.

Speakers are on 26 inch stands
Five feet from front wall; 27 inches from side wall and 7 feet 5 inches apart. Listening from 10 feet away.
Room is 21 x 13.

All listening was done in analog direct mode with NO subwoofer.
I listen to contemporary jazz. About the wildest thing I play is Larry Carlton.

These speakers really don't need additional help in the bass department. I never felt the need for a subwoofer.
Trumpets sounded wonderful, as did bass (Brian Bromberg-Downright Upright)

I've never cared much for vocal jazz, so not much to say in that department.

Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano sound wonderful.

I've had a love, hate, relationship with the saxophone. If it's not recorded extremely well, I'll avoid those Cd's.
I listened to some of THOSE Cd's and the Aon 3's made saxophones sound less strident.

Personally, I could easily live with the Aon 3's as front L/R. Would I miss my Triton 2's? Of course!!
As for now I'm going to leave them right where they are, they're that good.
Eventually they will become my wall mounted surrounds....EVENTUALLY

I'll bet 99% of people could live with these speakers. Throw in some Force field 5 subwoofers...what's not too LOVE.

Thanks Anthem for that feedback and I am very glad to hear that you enjoy the Aons!!!! Means I was not wrong in what I heard when I auditioned them a few times.
I went with the Tritons because I am sure I am more of a bass head than you, for sure I like full scale Rock and Roll and Symphony music. But yes, the piano sounds great on the Aons and I can see what you said about taming the sax.
One question, you have the speakers on the shorter wall, or longer? OK, two questions, did you try them farther apart?
You have a really good system and I believe it proves what I have been hearing, the GE speakers are worth having as good a supporting system feeding them as one can afford. Other equipment will be the weak link in most cases, NOT the speakers.

Hey Wayne(my Thailand Brother) :

The Aon 3's are on the short wall; (room is 21x13.5) positioned 5 ft. out into the room and 27 inches from the side walls (long wall). They are spaced 7.5 feet apart (inside corner to inside corner).

I'm wondering if a pair of Aon 3's were mated with a pair of Force field 5 subs and set beside a pair of Triton 2's and you were blindfolded, do you think you could here the difference. Just wondering.

I did the rock and roll thing from age 15 to 45. Now that I'm an antique specimen, my music tastes have changed. I always wanted to get into classical and traditional jazz but as of yet, still can't enjoy those genres. Country music (heaven forbid).

Looks like you're building a fantastic house. Do you have a extra room for me and the wife? LoL

I have a pile of stuff that pushes out squiggly waveforms from smaller squiggly waveforms that sometimes come from I's and 0's.

It's wonderful to behold as long as you don't let the magic smoke out.

For the most part it just all works... when it doesn't then it's time to rub a few brain cells together and soon enough it's all good to go again.

Thanks for the explanation. I am hoping I do not have to have the Tritons nearly so far out into the room as you have the Aons right now. I find that drives down the WAF really fast. That is one reason I have retired all the ribbon speakers.
I agree, the Aons just need bass help to be all around great sounding speakers. I auditioned them a few times with tube amps and thought those really made the Aons sing. Ever try tubes?
I hope the music plays a lot longer and really beautifully for both of us!!!!
