Recently bought the Aon3. I am thinking of getting a SuperSat 3c as Center. I have a 25 sq room, high ceiling living room as my HT area. Do you think SuperSat 3C would be enough? Hoping that I would not need to spend more for a 50C. Besides, I feel that the Aon 3 and my Monitor Audio RX Center are blending well anyway.

thanks for your advise

The SS3C would be fine, just make sure to set an appropriate crossover (120HZ) and best to locate the sub in the front of the room as close to the center speaker as possible. If no sub, set Aons as Large to handle the center bass frequencies.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I just want to know the reason why I have to place the sub nearest to the Center? I have a subwoofer which is placed at the right corner of my front stage. What difference would it make if I place it at the center?

Thanks.

Well - if you want to keep the sub in the corner you will have to set a lower crossover point to prevent directional frequencies. That's fine, but the SS3C would need the higher crossover to keep up with the Aons (the Aon is a quasi-full range speaker, the SS3C is a satellite). If you are not concerned about overall level, you can set the crossover at 80Hz and put the sub wherever you want.

I would like to keep the sub in the corner and I would like to be guided on whats the best crossover point that would not sacrifice the sonic balance of the Golden Ear speakers I would be purchasing. As I said, the MA Center I am using now sounds good and blends decently with my Aon3. If buying a SS3C would not make my HT sound better, I would rather keep what I have now.

I am fairly new to this hobby and I would like to learn more. Some jargons you used are fairly new to me. Can you please elaborate on the meaning of directional frequencies and overall level.

Thanks again

Sorry - quick response from a busy moderator :-(

1) The higher in frequency the subwoofer is asked to play (based on the crossover chosen), the more you will be able to hear where its sound is coming from (that's the directional part of the discussion - you don't want the bass frequencies from the center channel to be audibly coming from the corner of the room). Generally the accepted maximum crossover frequency for a sub located in the corner of the room would be 80Hz.

2) Overall level (how loud the speaker will play without straining) is determined by the crossover setting - the higher the crossover the louder the 3C will be able to play. Maximum playing level will be obtained with a 120Hz crossover.

The MA center may sound like it blends OK to you, but I can assure you it does not and you will benefit greatly from a matching center speaker for your Aons.

Hope this helps.
