Sorry - I have deprecated the sanus hover stands in favor of the super stands for the ss50s. I still use the hover stands for my ss3's in back.
This is a picture of a similar stand (different base footprint, but same L bracket). As you can see, the L bracket faces out, and it would connect to the upper screw connection on the ss50. This means that much of the ss50 hangs in front of, and parallel to the hover stand bar. The stand itself raises quite high, so it's easy to get the ss50 well off the ground.
The thing to notice is that the L bracket will sit flush with the SS50 (advised to use the foam padding between the L bracket and speaker), but the L bracket actually extends at least an inch or so beyond the bar it attaches to, towards the rear. From the side this is fairly noticeable. The pic above is a side shot, btw. Left side would connect to the ss50, right side shows the overhang of the L bracket to the rear.
Even if I had the speakers setup like this, I'd have to take about 5 or so different pictures from different angles to really give you an idea of each detail. Suffice to say that they are probably in stock at your local big-box dealer. Try them out, and if you aren't completely satisfied, return them. (if your in Colorado, let me know - I have a pair you can have).
The super stand 50's are much better looking, cleaner and more refined. If they would have been out when I purchased my speakers - I would have just gone with them for the front speakers. GE doesn't make anything quite like the hover stands which can get the rear SS3s up high, and angled down - so I still consider those the best-bet for rear surrounds. (see below pic for an idea of how I have the SS3's setup in back)
