I did this same comparison a few months ago, and then decided to move from the One to the One.R.
I listened to them side by side at my dealer (in RI) as from the descriptions of the speakers it didn't seem to me that there would be a large difference in the sound. I was wrong :-). Side by side it was quite clear, even though the One is a great speaker, that the One.R was much improved.

Very happy with the upgrade, listen to them almost every day and I'm constantly wowed by the sound I'm getting from my setup...
