Hello all I am looking at purchasing the Emotiva XPA mono blocks to power triton ones. My question is does anyone else have the XPA-1's on their GE's?
If so are you happy with the results?
I like music loud so I want as much clean quality power as possible. I have done lots of research and there is lots of good things said about the emotive XPA line. I am trying to build on budget...

Hey there Outlaw#9.... while I do not have an XPA-1, I do have Emotiva gear. Specifically, an ERC-3 CD player. I've also talked with Lonnie and can tell you their build quality is extremely good value (very much like GET in that respect). I can draw an inference based on my Emotiva CD player (which I am very pleased with) that in all likelihood you would be making a good choice with the XPA1. You also made a good choice with the T1's!!. I too have a pair. They play rather loud without much power as would be expected given the 92db efficiency and powered woofer/sub. In conclusion, go for it... I think the XPA1 and T1s will work very well together.

Outlaw#9,

You can see from my signature block that I have a fair amount of Emotiva gear. I don't have the XPA-1s but I do have their little brothers, the XPA-1Ls and really enjoy them with my T1s. I'm sure the XPA-1s wouldn't be much different. Sound quality and value are tough to beat, all things considered. Are there better amps out there? Sure, but you're going to spend a lot more money and you'd probably be better off putting that elsewhere in the system. Maybe a good pre-amp... As GDHAL said, go for it. I doubt you will regret it.

For about $2,500, I purchased Emotivas pre-amp, CD player, and monoblock amps. Paired with the right cables and the T1s, it's a pretty sweet combination. An Oppo BDP-105 with the XPA-1s would make a pretty awesome 2-channel setup as well. Let us know what you decide and how it sounds, please. Happy hunting!

Cheers,

T Cobe

As T Cobe has stated, Emotiva's sound quality and value are tough to be beat, and when paired with the right cables, they can make for a great sounding system. I've owned the xpa-1's (Gen 1) for several years now. I'm using them with a Primaluna Premium Preamp (tube) and an Oppo 105...speakers are the T2's. The best sound for me has come about by upgrading the power cords on all components. Prior to upgrading the power cords, I thought the xpa - 1's to be be very detailed, but crossed the line in the upper octaves region. I purchased the Primaluna, and that helped, but the sound didn’t come together until I replaced all stock power cords with up graded ones (Anti-Cable Reference 3's). A much smoother sound has replaced much of the harshness that use to exist and is now much easier to listen to, especially at higher volumes.

As stated before, the Emotiva xpa -1'S paired with the right electronics, interconnects, cords, and acoustical treatments, can and would make for a great sounding system.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

Hey Outlaw#9,

I have the Triton one's with XPA 1 series 2, and couldn't be happier. I upgraded from a Crown XLS 2500, decent amp but it was a temp fix until I upgraded. The crown was pushing about 375 class D (not that watts matter) and never ran out of juice, switching over to the XPA's opened up the soundstage quite a bit. Instruments now appear to come from well beyond the boundaries of the speakers, it really is an amazing combo. I listen pretty loudly (NiN is one of my goto angry groups) I've never heard any compression. I run an Emotiva XMC-1 pre/pro with an Oppo 103. One thing about my system is, garbage in garbage out, the more revealing the system the more you start paying attention to quality recording....it's a problem.

Don't think too much about it...just jump in both feet!

I'm of a slightly different opinion than the others, as I've never been able to hear much of the differences that changing amps and cables, other than the gain that's changed with items such as speaker cables. You need good quality components all the way through, but if your components are already sufficient, adding or swapping them out doesn't always change the sound.

What amp are you currently using to power your Triton ones? GE speakers are fairly efficient, unless your amp is unable to power them, adding more power wont change much. Adding more power adds headroom, which if your current amp is running out of and clipping is occurring, then it will definitely help. If your current amp has sufficient headroom, adding more headroom wont hurt and its great insurance, but I've never heard a sonic difference that unused headroom adds.

I use an Emotiva XPA-5 amp powering my Triton One's. But I had to buy an external amp to power 11 channels anyways since no AVR is able to. I also use Blue Jean Cables Canare 4 strand 14 ga cable at 3/8" thick for speaker wires because hey, many times I have more money than brains and if I am going to add something I may as well add something good. :P

The XPA line is discontinued but you can still find some them on sale currently. I've looked at picking up another Emotiva XPA-2 and then a third gen 4 channel for the rest of my speakers so eventually I'll change my avr to a pre/pro.

Just be sure if you're about to spend a $1k or so on an item, that your going to have your expectations met.
I go by - Speakers first, then more subs, then room treatments, then electronics like MiniDSP & Dirac, then more amps, then fancy cables but more for aesthetics than sound.
