You have a fascinating musical background! I envy your ability to sing. I wish I could.
Have fun auditioning the T1's and T2's side by side. Either will bring you great listening pleasure.
You asked what other sonic factors in addition to deeper, fuller bass led me to purchase the T1's. I guess it was the smoothness. the rich tonal balance, the way the speakers' locations absolutely disappeared and all there was was an immersive soundstage. I heard nuances and details on CD's I was very familiar with that I had not ever heard before, including mid and upper ranges. Everything is so balanced and detailed, from delicate to powerful pieces. AND I decided I was going to keep the T2's as a part of my music/cinema system, so it wasn't a pure either/or decision.
I think you've picked a great assortment of music for your audition.
Please let us know what you find in your audition... there are no wrong choices, it's what works best for you. You'll be listening to two superb speaker systems.

I'll let you know what I think after next week's planned audition.

Sorry I did not see your thread due to travelling, and then spending time with family, it has been hard catching up, you guys are having a great discussion up to 3 pages now! Art, you have a very interesting musical background!!!! I sang in choirs too but only in high school and college.
T Cobe and Rick and Wweiss have addressed your questions wonderfully and indeed you are looking in the right place and auditioning the Ones vs T 2s is a VERY smart move. I wish I could do that, really wish I could have done that, but the Ones were not around when I bought my T 2s.
I too love full orchestral music, and as was mentioned, love bass to sound REAL. To me, the Triton 2s are MUCH better than the Triton 7s (which are wonderfully MAGIC, great sounding speakers!!!) at full blown orchestral weight and splendor!!!!!
I asked the same questions of my system and (this is just my for what it's worth, my humble opinion) I felt I needed to add a FF5 sub to the mix for just the two things you mention, low bowed double bass and the lower pedal notes of the organ. I need to hear the bottom octave cello and bowed bass as if they are in the room in front of me. But I also put the sub at the middle of the back of the room. I will admit, it is not perfect there. And I will admit that I am still experimenting on getting the bass integrated into my system properly.
I will be very interested to hear your opinion about how the T 2s handle our kind of music, and how much better the T Ones are?
Thanks and God Bless,
Wayne

I guess I had dismissed the T3s from my consideration, but I would be very interested in hearing about how T3s compare with T7s and, for that matter, T3s with T2s and T1s - especially with regard to orchestral music.

Hi Wayne,
I think that accurately reproducing the warm deep sound of a group of bowed double bass instruments is one of the most challenging assignments for any speaker system. I am going to add another recording to my Triton-sampling collection - perhaps the Beethoven 9th to hear the bass and cello section play the "Ode to Joy" melody in the 4th movement, or the Shostakovitch 11th Symphony, which has an extended double bass sectional solo. I am hopeful that the integrated woofer feature of the active Triton series will provide the sound I seek. I would like to be able to use the active Tritons as the primary full audio source, then adjust my Paradigm to augment the deep bass from its place in the rear of the room. I have found it really difficult to get proper bass integration for all bass types in my room. Perhaps with two built in subs, things will change.
I have another question for our group - how important are speaker cables? I am using 18 gauge lamp cord throughout my room because we had the room pre-wired 15 years ago when we refurbished it. I can add different speaker cables for the front speakers, but not the "second fronts" positioned in the rear. If speaker cables really are important, which cables to consider?
Best,
Art
