Since the debut of the Triton 2's have there been any claims for blown drivers due to excessive volume? Mine are fine, just wondering.

Short answer, no.

Long answer - yes, a few. Really amazingly few though, because typically people who "make a mistake" typically take out the tweeter, except the GoldenEar ribbon tweeter is virtually indestructible. So, try as they might, they're really hard for abusers to blow up. So hard, in fact, its almost impossible to blow them up without burning up the crossover too - which really takes some effort. ("Why is there smoke coming out of my midrange drivers?") When this happens, 90% of the time its from overdrive of a low-power, low end receiver (think $399 on closeout) that just goes bezerk instead of shutting down when pushed too hard. The other 10% is from 500+ watt meg-amps and people who define loud differently than the rest of us.

Blown midranges are also very rare, harder to blow than a tweeter because of the way most low-power amps clip (distort) when overdriven. Blown woofers are impossible (mechanical failures can happen, of course) because the internal ForceField digital amp limits any potentially damaging peaks.

P.S.: Changed the subject, hope you don't mind. Yours was scary. :)

Thanks for the quick response, great information. I've always had some reservations about playing the Tritons excessively loud. Your response puts my mind more at ease. Play them loud if desired, but also show them respect.
