OK, you got me... I guess I've used that story once too often... but I LIKE it.
In time we may offer other finishes, but for now it is just like Henry Ford said, "you can have it in any color as long as its black". The saggy grille cloths is simply poor initial setup at the dealer, a problem we have recognized and addressed with future shipments of Tritons. Any woman will tell you that if you don't put the stockings on right you will get sags and wrinkles (I'm thinking the problem is most of the A/V store staff are men). We have modified the packing of the Triton so that it can be shipped fully assembled (other than the base) with no grille sock work required. Tell your wrinkly-sock dealer to call us and we'll help him fix things up over the phone. In answer to your question about using the Triton without the sock, yes one could but the cabinet beneath is not finished in any cosmetically pleasing way.
Regarding the Triton bass performance, the surface area of the two bass drivers is virtually identical to the surface area of the 10" ForceField 4 woofer. The Triton has more overall surface area because of the two passive radiators vs. the one on the ForceField 4 but the sub gets a bit back because of the design's slot loading with the floor. Bottom line, two ForceField 4's bass extension and output is almost identical to a pair of Triton Twos -but - in a drag race, the two ForceField 4's would win.
