Hey, T

Good to see your posts again! I suspect you're a busy guy. I now have a tube of Deoxit D, and Deoxit Gold, to both clean (D) and then protect (Gold) contacts. I'll try the combo in the next few days, just need to decide where to try it first.

I cleaned my equipment last weekend. I started with the Primaluna Preamp. I used q-tips and pipe cleaners with deoxit Gold. I cleaned the tube pins with q-tips and sprayed deoxit directly into the rca Jacks (YouTube video). The Primaluna is 40 months old and has gone through several tube changes. The only blackness that I saw on the q-tips came from the power cord jack and a small amount from the rca Jacks. The Primaluna is hooked up to the Oppo 105 and Emotiva xpa -1's, which were also cleaned. Now the bad news...trumpets and saxophones sound overly bright. I thought maybe my military copper/silver Interconnects were the problem, so replaced them with copper and silver/gold...no real change. Spraying directly into the rca's, could that cause what I'm hearing?

Today I've been listening to the Torri. It's hooked to the Cambridge Audio Azure cd and Adcom 565 Preamp. I cleaned every thing the same as the Primaluna but didn't spray directly into the rca's...it sounds great.

Was all this fun? Not really, but my equipment is now clean.
Now the next step...take care of the brightness in the Primaluna/Emotiva setup. Wish me luck.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

Cleaned and added the Gold on the wires connected to my monoblock amps, turntable, and T1s. Next up will be the CD player and preamp. No sibilance or glaring treble, thankfully. Maybe a bit more transparency and a bit better imaging, but I'll need to do some more critical listening. The process is definitely arduous. Off to the dentist...

Cheers,

T Cobe

I got a little cautious after Anthem saying he added some brightness after cleaning/spraying directly into RCA's, so I took a baby step, and applied Deoxit Gold to the digital coax interconnects from the SONOS to the Wyred 4 Sound Reclocker (Signal Cable), and from the Reclocker to the AVR (a Nordost coax). That's the signal path I use to stream music. Neither coax's contacts looked at all dirty, so just the Gold treatment. First play with some familiar music, seemed smoother, some cleaner.

I've looked at contacts in other parts of the HT system. Most are fairly new... I went to banana BFA's not too long ago for all speaker connects. I'll keep plugging along, probably a component at a time, but first listen says there's something there to gain, even with what look to be clean contacts.

Can I suggest guys that contact cleaner will not make you system brighter!!! If it sounds brighter after cleaning, then it always was bright but the crud was just getting in the way, hiding it. Now you hear it clearly, cleanly (pun intended).
One more suggestion, after you guys get finished doing all your connections, can you come over here and do mine?????
Can you believe I had to build my theater with a hole in the wall behind where my system sits, just soes I can get behind it and to the back to connect things up?????
I can get back there but it is not easy, does not happen any more often than is necessary!!!
You are welcome any time.
God Bless,
Wayne
