Your grandson sounds like quite the discerning fellow. I appreciate the feedback and look forward to seeing the film for myself. I have tickets for 0800 on Christmas Eve... Boy, I miss the good old days where you would just show up at the movie and buy tickets! I hope this is not an emerging trend. I can't plan this far ahead to watch a movie on a a regular basis; however, as I've stated before, I'd rather watch movies at home, so I'll be able to wait for most releases to hit Blu-Ray.
Cheers,
T Cobe

I thought I'd inject a bit of humor into the discussion by reporting my grandson's critique. I was especially amused by his "Lucas vs Disney content" comment. Based upon what I have read, it appears that my grandson's review does not align with the majority opinion.
I'm not attracted to "Star Wars" types of movies. But, I hope that the movies lives up to the expectations of those of you who have been looking forward to its arrival.
Happy viewing.

Yes, that was the basis for my comment. Congratulations, your grandson is a 1%er The original trilogy is decent (its honestly not that great but there is so much bias and nostalgia baked in now it is impossible to be objective) in large part because Lucas involved other writers and possibly more importantly, other directors. The prequels, which are constant fodder for internet hatred and receive almost NO defense were written and directed by Lucas himself. The dialog in particular is intolerable.
Not to spoil but your grandson is wrong about there not being enough "Jedis" (IMO of course) its just that no one beats you over the head by having a character point to them and say oh, your a Jedi, I'm a Jedi (shh) I'm going to train you to be a Jedi and we'll be Jedi's together. Did I say Jedi? That's the element that Lucas brought that is thankfully missing from this movie.
And as far as being too Disney, this is only the second Star Wars to receive a PG-13 rating.
BTW, I'm seriously not picking on your 12 year old grandson. I have 3 daughters, 11 and 5 who are not into the series at all (5 is too young) and a 9 year old who saw it with me and loved it.
Regarding buy-ahead tickets, I don't think it will really become the norm for a very long time. Maybe when the current teens are 40 it will be the norm by virtue of just pulling out your phone and saying "I want tickets to the 3pm Star Wars" but not any time soon. You'd be able to see Star Wars without buying tickets ahead of time next week easily. The first two weeks are different for any "big event" movies. Fret not.

We will be watching the big games together over New Years Weekend - especially the Alabama-Michigan State game. It will be Roll Tide for us, when the Tide and the Spartans tangle.

The past two to three times I have gone to the movies, my seating options have been very limited by people purchasing on-line prior to getting to the theater. It's a bit annoying when your sitting in crummy seats and the theater is empty 20 minutes before the start of the movie. So much for early bird gets the worm. Maybe it's due to the fact that the theater is relatively new, has full size leather reclining chairs, and Atmos. Maybe when the sparkle of the "new" theater wears down... I'm guessing buying tickets ahead of time is going to grow rapidly in popularity. Time will tell. I consider the lesson learned and will be buying my tickets in advance more often unless it is a spontaneous decision, which is rare since I have a live in social planner...
Cheers,
