Recently, I helped a fellow choral singer with her AV setup. She complained of having trouble hearing clear dialogue when watching video. I gave her an older 2-channel Receiver and set it up so that she could separately control the center channel dialogue volume while watching video. I also am working with her to resolve a sound problem she is having with her main Onkyo AV Receiver.

Her husband passed away about a year ago. He was a musician and a musical instructor and he had an extensive and eclectic CD collection. My friend had culled out the CDs she wanted to keep and. as a thank-you for helping her with her AV system, she allowed me to pick out a number of CDs - so many CDs, that I had to rethink my entire musical storage and playback scheme.

I have spent the last couple of weeks completely reordering my CD storage setup. I have 5 Sony 300 CD changers in my setup, plus 2 more 5-CD players and a single CD player. I can store up to 1500 CDs in those 5 changers. After much thought, I decided to store my classical choral CDs in one of the changers and the balance of the classical CDs in 3 of the changers. Operas and other multi-disc sets containing a number of CDs are stored separately and played via the 5-CD changers.

This approach allows me to find and play choral music more efficiently. Four of my five changers are devoted to classical music and the fifth changer contains popular music (popular for me is big band, jazz, folk music, and standards from the 30s through 50s).

What has all this got to do with Golden Ear? Well, I am now enjoying the fruits of my re-arrangement efforts by exploring my newly expanded and organized CD collection by listening to them through my GE Triton Ones, Triton Sevens, and SuperSat 3Cs. Each speaker pair is separately driven - the Ones and Sevens are Fronts and the 3Cs are in the Rear, but driven as Fronts.

As I type this message, I am listening to a set of 4 CDs which contain all of the Trumpet Concertos by Georg Phillipe Telemann. I have just completed listening to all of the Haydn Symphonies (33 discs). As usual, the GE speakers make this listening excursion a pleasure.
