Spyro Gyro / Wrapped in a Dream (2006) -- The Voodooyoodoo

A little Boogaloo before I hit the pavement this morning.
Magical sound, I might add.
It should be against the law not to listen to Smooth Jazz, on occasion.

Putzing around the man cave this morning tweaking a few things. I'm hoping to receive word that my cables have arrived at my local dealer. In the meantime, things sound as good as ever! Blues and Roots is another great album by Charles Mingus. Sound quality is pretty good throughout. There is a little bit of back ground hiss noticeable here and there. Nothing too distracting or unusual for a recording of this era. Overall, this is a very enjoyable album.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Starting the morning with an acoustic set. With the new power cables, the 18-7 wire is too harsh so it's back to the 10-gauge Belden wire. It's amazing how everything interacts and the synergy can be thrown off quite easily. This highlights the dangers of demoing one new cable at a time.

This album, though it sounds very good, can have a bit of grain in the texture. Things are sounding pretty smooth this morning but there is still a bit of grain and etch. Even at 5 dB below my usual "low volume" listening levels, the soundstage is quite large and the dynamics are present. The music sounds a bit more immediate with a quicker tempo. With one more cable to upgrade on my source, I'm pleased with the results so far.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Happy 4th of July all! Lazy morning today watching the Tour De France and listening to music. Finishing up another listen to Go.

Three O'Clock in the Morning is a bit more balanced in terms of instrument levels than many of the other tracks on this album where Gordon's sax work really takes first place by a wide margin. This song brings the other musicians to the foreground to significant benefit.

Sound quality on this one is decent. It definitely sounds like a 60s recording but it is clean and free from distortion as far as I can tell. There is certainly nothing negative that draws attention to itself. The recording levels are a bit high so you'll need a fewer dBs on the volume knob to reach your usual listening levels. Anthem, I think the sax is clean on this one and it would certainly make a good addition to your library.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Dexter Gordon / Go (1962) -- I Guess I'll hang my tears out to dry.

First play today. Excellent, excellent piece of music.
I don't know which song is my favorite, I likes them all.
Sonically very good. Thanks T Cobe for the recommendation...a winner in my book.
